Greetings,
Long-time SG101 lurker; recently joined the ranks; and figured I'd need to post sooner or later. Here's a link to a video of a Halloween show my band played with the fabulous Atomic Mosquitos and our good friends The Tremors.

The Straight 8s play predominantly trad rock-a-billy, but we do have a number of surf and instro songs in the repertoire. The party-goers fooling with the Flip camera happened to record Ann Bowman (named after a character in Psycho Beach Party), so thought y'all might dig it. You can always fast forward to the third song in the vid to watch the 'skeeters rip it up.
I should mention I play drums and have been a closet guitar-noodler since the mid-80s. I've recently gotten more serious about learning to play, hence taking the plunge to sign-up on SG101. Thanks for havin' me!

Hey Murph - Welcome! Fun footage, thanks for posting / sharing!
I dig the Ann Bowman cut & your stand up drumming style, but think you misplaced your Peter Criss whiskers. I keed! The spooky skull face getup you & the boys have is pretty sweet too.
Big fan of the Atomic 'Skeeters. I'd forgotten that I missed this event (was out of town Halloween weekend), but seeing this reminds me how much I hated missing it. Oh well - at least they're planning to come back to play Crispy's Instro Summit again in the spring. Yay!

Hey O_B,
Thanks for the kind words and glad you dug the video. The Dia De Los Muertos theme was kooky-fun, but not nearly as cool as the custom masks Stephen made for the 'Skeeters. Dunno if they will become part of their stage show or not, but either way those guys rip!
I sweat like a pig and was paranod about getting the phosphorescent gel in my eyes... so I look like I have a glow-in-the-dark beard instead of a full skull. LOL When we bought the stuff at the magic shop, Ormon asked "so, just how dangerous is it to put this directly on your skin". The guy replied "what, you want to live forever?" LOL To which Ormon replied "doesn't matter to me, I'm not going to be using any of it!"

No kiddin'! Looks like they came straight off the album cover. Most excellent giddy-ups for sure.

Hola Murph, welcome to SG101! I actually went to the show you guys did about a week earlier at the Saxapahaw Oktoberfest- you guys were so smokin that night the electricity cut off! Wish I went to this one too, but luckily I had already seen you, and the skeeters I've seen twice. Anyway, glad you signed up, it's always great seeing more Carolina peeps around.

Thanks for the welcome, Morphball (and awesome avatar)! SXPHW was a ton of fun... very eclectic venue and crowd... SCOTS even stopped by that night!
The electric "service" to the stage is basically an extension cord over to the old general store. LOL Daniel's SVT head wouldn't even come out of standby mode (luckily he had another in the van!) But the great crowd and hospitality by the folks coordinating the music FAR outshines any power issues.
Hope to see you and O_B around R/D/CH sometime in 2011!

That's one of the reasons why I like living there; an interesting place in the middle of nowhere! We also just had a pub open in the area (The Eddy), and last week Tom Maxwell from Squirrel Nut Zippers just shows up and starts playing, completely impromptu from what I heard. I'm hoping more good bands show up and play there, it's literally across the parking lot for me.

Whoa, you live in Saxapahaw? COOL! In the small world department, my wife is headed to Saxaco today for lunch with a friend. We're hoping to check out The Eddy one day/night this weekend.
We live in PBO, so not far at all. I used to run by Tom Maxwell's house all the time when he lived in town. (Literally "run", not stop by for coffee). Did you catch Paperhand's "Love and Robots" in SXPHW? Jimmy Magoo's band was/is incredible! We saw it early last year and was stoked they brought it back in December.
"Interesting place in the middle of nowhere" - INDEED!

I missed seeing Love and Robots (or "Love and Rockets", as my confused wife calls it), on account of snow that night I was gonna see it, but we caught "The Hungry Ghosts" once and thought it was pretty trippy. And you're right, interesting accompanying music for sure- they actually did a saw solo right after doing some puppet fornication, blew my mind, haha. Anyway, I might see you around; we've been meaning to see the pub, and might venture outdoors one of these days.

Great to see you on SG101 murph!!
It was an honor and a total blast to be part of such a top-notch event like the Hullabaloo!
Thanks for the video, it was great to re-live that night.

Wow that was pretty sick. I remember seeing the ads for this... wish I would have made it out. I haven't been to one surf show yet. Sounds exactly what I'm into tho. Maybe next time if there is an opportunity.
I'm in the upstate of SC. Easley/Greenville area but trudge around in WNC a lot.

Here's your next opportunity then:

These annual events should not be missed, especially this year with the Space Rangers coming all the way from Germany... this would be one hell of a first show for you!
