Permalink Amplitube Fender through Stereo

New Topic

Hi all. When I play with the Amplitube software through my stereo there is a big drop off in sound quality compared to going through the headphones. Any suggestions on how to improve the sound quality. I guess the speakers may be inadequate or the rca cable but im not sure what makes for appropriate speakers etc.
Cheers
Nigel

Yeah- 1. Get some powered studio monitors. Even budget ones will be a huge improvement over your home stereo. It's just not tuned to recreate a single instrument correctly. Position your speakers symmetrically, according to your room and listening position, not close to walls, tweeters at ear level.

  1. Get a real soundcard (if you're using the built-in)- Again, even a cheap USB one will make an improvement, more importantly on the input (preamp) stage. Very crucial with amp-sims, to get reasonable results.

  2. connect it all with good cables.

  3. Consider treating your room acoustically. If you want to seriously record/mix, make it the 1st step.

No shortcuts here mate, you want good sound you gotta lay out some cash. Luckily, not too much nowadays.

Thanks mate. I think I will start with the cable which goes from the stealth plug to the stereo. Thats the 3.5mm to RCA I believe. Mine only cost about £7 so im guessing thats a budget one. I ve just found some for £300!! Wont be getting that one, I aint that good.

OK StealthPlug... why didn't you say! That takes care of the soundcard part of things... for now. To improve on that would be a financial leap.
Just upgrading the cable will give you only a minor improvement I suppose, but go ahead. 300£ cable is snake oil though. A decent pro cable should be enough.

Your weakest link is monitoring, I guess. Look at some cheap nearfields with at least a 6" woofer. KRK, Yamaha etc. AVOID Behringer.

Thanks for the advice. Id never heard of nearfields before. Cheers
