SurfBandBill: I got the Twin Reverb Custom 15 because, as you say, "hey, who doesn't love a Twin Reverb?" and dang that big speaker is awfully nice. I had wanted one of those lovely Standel reissues forever but this came around and suited my amp budget quite a bit better. So I got it. And it is GOOD.

One thing I find useful now is going 'A+B'-style into the two channels: using channel one with my outboard reverb (for the really drippy parts) and channel two with the built-in reverb set to about "5" (for lighter stuff). That has worked out quite nicely since I found the Boss switching pedal.

I only wish this Twin was closed-back...but that is a whole 'nother thread. And just a dream, I guess.

I chose my Twin Reverb "head" because that's what I could find in my old country at the time. It's played through closed back cabinets, so for all practical reasons it's a "Dual Showman Reverb". I'm probably not going to buy another blackface amp (if and when I have the cash), cause I'm dreaming of a brownface blond Showman.
My bandmate Hans has a Vibroking, and it sounds great, blows away ALL the Reissue amps. We tried it at the store and compared it to all the reissues they had (including the TR with the 15" speaker). The 3 knob reverb is similar to the outboard unit, but not 100%...it doesn't get as drippy. The amp itself is designed after the 59 Bassman, if I'm not mistaken.
It has 3X10" speakers (Jensen I think) that sounds good, but I persuaded Hans to play through closed back cabinets and it sounds much better for what we do.

I gotta say, when I was setting up my Sweptwing, I was A/Bing it with the Mosrite at show volume in my garage (standing a few feet from the amp) and there's no feeling like that pressure in your chest cavity when you hear that low E really get going.

I had gotten the Twin Reverb before that because, hey, who doesn't love a Twin Reverb?

Bill I know what you mean that pressure of bass and tone oh yeah I love that feeling, I almost feel like Chong in that movie where he's playing his ampeg and black tele in the house blowing everyone away and cheech walks in to try to turn off the amp you know what movie I'm talking about "Next movie" but anyways yeah man Twin Reverb rocks!

Oh here's the video I just uploaded to youttube of Chong

Or Back to the Future when Marty blows that huge speaker up and it knocks him back several feet.

Yes that's an awesome movie! it would have been cool if he busted out a Dick Dale lick and blew up the amp with a giant reverb tank Laughing
