As a big proponent of analog recording, and a proud 'digi-phobe', I'm extremely pleased that Otari is now manufacturing 2, 4, 8, 16, and 24 track reel to reel tape machines again! Apparently there is a growing demand around the world. Hopefully this will lead other manufacturers to re-start production of their classic recorders. Great news.

What is the $$$-damage? Are these professional studio quality? Does the unit just drop into the big consol?
This is what I am more use to seeing in Studios:

And that's just like the some of the models they are re-introducing. The 2 track pictured on their sight is a smaller portable model, but every bit pro studio grade; half track 1/4"

Gotcha! I found it odd that they'd show the small two-track model.

that's because they haven't started to manufacture anything larger yet.. They are set to start production this year. I guess the link is misleading because they don't mention it the site yet.

Really great news! Analog rules!
Hope the prices won't raise on the used ones before I buy one!

Just out of curiosity, where are you getting info that Otari is making machines other than the 5050 two track that has been around now quite a while ? The 5050, while pretty cool for what it has always been, is currently $7350 US brand new. A custom four-track was made for someone I know last year at a cost of almost $12,000. Not exactly assembly-line mass consumer stuff any more.
We're back to the old old days where if you want a premium analog machine brand new, it's gonna cost some serious moolah. Anyway, haven't heard that Otari is venturing out to higher tracks beyond those I mentioned. Where is this information ?

All I'd need now is a new house..
Stop it. Analogue is the playground of coked up superstars.
