Permalink Danelectro dead-on 67 baritone --> bass VI conversion?

New Topic

Hi All,

I read some people have converted danelectro baritones to Bass VI's in the past - could I do this with the dead-on '67 baritone?

It has quite a long scale, 29". So should be fine.
Apparently others have not even changed the nut?!

Do you think the neck could handle the extra tension? Should I go 'light' Bass VI strings to try?

Cheers in advance!

As an
alienated institution, the market is neither hostile nor friendly, simply detached and
cold.

by the way, i'm looking to put flatwounds on.

Ernie does a 'bass guitar' 6-string set (20,30,42,54,74,90)
But these are ROUNDS

However, I can buy light chrome flat set from D'Addario (40 - 95) and get a 20 and a 30 singles chromes (for electric guitar)

Nightmare!

Does that make sense?

I recently went the other way and converted a Danelectro six string bass to a baritone. The guitar had an approx. 30" scale and a factory roundwound 24-34-44-56-72-84 set on it. 20-90 may not work and 40-95 seems a way too stout. Conversion was straightforward, though, so I imagine that you will have no real trouble. The only things I might worry about a little are the tuners and string holes on the tailpiece. The six string bass has bigger tuners and holes, of course. For me, it was as simple as a truss rod adjustment. You may have to enlarge some holes a bit.

Don't know anything about flatwound strings in this ga. First place I would look is La Bella, though. Or maybe Thomastik-Inkfeld. Good luck.
