Can anybody throw me a clue on this one? A pawn shop near me has one in white that is supposedly in excellent condition. I'm going to check it out this afternoon.

There's a non Excellent Mosrite reissue on the Guitar Center used gear section. Thats going for 1000ish. I don't know if it's a Classics or not... Have you thought about joining the Mosrite forum? —"as he stepped into the stealthy night air... little did he know the fire escape was not there" https://www.facebook.com/reluctantaquanauts/ |

Yeah, I'd definitely check the Mosrite forum. Those are Fillmores, and the newer ones with the "Classics" branding don't seem as highly regarded as the older Fillmores or Kurokumos. (Never even seen one though.) They definitely fetch crazy prices brand new though. — |

Ok, here are a few pics. The pick guard is badly warped and will need replacing and I'm pretty sure these aren't the correct pickups based on what I've seen in other pictures of this model. Still, a very nice guitar, especially if this is supposed to be the "entry level" model. Interesting note: it has a three-piece neck.

Nice! I think something like this would fit it: http://pickguards.us/pricemosrite.html Occasionally, you see MIJ Mosrite covers on the bay (with the Mosrite stamp), and if you wanted to completely replace the pickups, Seymour Duncan actually makes replacements: http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/custom-shop/specialized-1/duncanmosrite_f/ Ed Elliot (who worked with Semie) makes very accurate pickups too, but I think he's more into building guitars than selling parts at the moment. |

And Tony at Pickguardian ( http://www.pickguardian.com/pickguardian/ ) can make you a VERY nice replacement pickguard. —Jack Booth The Mariners (1964-68, 1996-2005), 2025 |

The pickups look more p90ish than Mosrite. How do they sound? "as he stepped into the stealthy night air... little did he know the fire escape was not there" https://www.facebook.com/reluctantaquanauts/ |

THe pickups do look more like P-90's, and I don't think it sounds quite like a Mosrite. It does sound good. Jamie (Mystery Men) described it as "very round sounding" at practice. The logo on the pick guard is actually only on the plastic. I'm wondering if any of the eBay replacement guards would fit it. Either way, I've gotta get one. And I did not know that Seymour Duncan actually made Mosrite pups... —The Mystery Men? |

I asked this guy on ebay how different vintage vs MIJ actually is: And he flat out would not recommend it at all, I think it's more than just the screw holes too. I think you would either have to go with one specifically for MIJ's, or even better, trace it and get one custom made. (I'm thinking about doing the later- I really would like a 1-ply mint or aged white guard on my sunburst.) — |

I know this is a very old discussion but I stumbled upon this while doing research on Mosrite because I own two now and just bought a new one online and thought if anyone is interested I'd like to tell you a little bit about this guitar because I used to own it. I purchased a Mosrite that is an early 2000s model that was listed as a Mosrite of Classics but the photos show it is a Mosrite of California, so despite the mislabeling on the description I bought it. But I did research on Mosrite of Classics and forgot the Mosrite copy I owned in 2008 was a Mosrite of Classics until I saw this discussion. I hope the one I just bought online today is an Excellent. When I saw this discussion I was floored to see my old guitar. I forgot the dates but I bought this one off eBay circa 2008 from a seller who was a pawn shop here in California out in the desert in Indio. If I recall correctly I paid $1,100 plus shipping. After getting it I realized I probably paid too much. Sure the auction photos showed it all but I was new to Mosrite and didn't pay attention to detail until after I bought it. I was disappointed that the pickups were not Mosrite and the trem unit looked cheap and didn't say Mosrite. With that said it sounded decent but not Mosrite. Finsh was beautiful. Being a big fan of The Ventures I bought that decal and put it on the pickguard. Made more sense had I put it on the headstock. This is why I recognize it, not only the same model but the decal confirmed it. I had a red Dillion Mosrite like guitar I also put a decal on the pickguard. In 2009 I sold it on eBay to a buyer in Atlanta. I lost money on it and sold it for $800. I saw the new owner say he bought it from a pawn shop in I think Atlanta. If you are reading this how much did you buy it for? Apparently the guy I sold it to in Atlanta pawned it off then you bought it. I saw the pics of how you fixed it up. You did a great job of it. Hey, wow. This is a blast from the past. I honestly don't remember how much I paid for it but it was ridiculously low for a "Mosrite." I then turned around and bought the Hallmark pickups, a pickguard, and paid for a setup, but even in all that I was not up to $1000. It was a nice guitar, but I had owned and played enough guitars even back then to know it wasn't worth Ed Roman prices. The pawn shop I bought it from had several; another one like this and a couple of the Johnny Ramone type models. I loved the neck on this guitar because it was shallow, and I still favor guitars with shallow necks. It was also extremely light, much more so than any other guitar I've ever had. —The Mystery Men? |

Yeah I took a loss on that one and I wonder if the person who bought it off me from eBay was the pawn shop or some individual who sold it to the pawn shop after I sold it to him. My guess is someone bought it from me then needed some money and sold it to the pawn shop since you got it for a great price. I sold it for $800 from my recollection. So if you got a good deal whatever cost that is I doubt the pawn shop got it from me on eBay so I figure the individual got it from me for $800 plus shipping, fell on hard times and sold it to the pawn shop who of course paid a lot lower than he bought it for because they have to make money on the resale. |
