We've already had an explicit statement that the band were aware of the origins of Pintor in the Latin classic Angelitos Negros. I couldn't see how they wouldn't but it's great to have that affirmed.
Let me resurrect another biggie, in the form of a question of Jake's:
Does anybody know if they were named after the Lighthouse of Alexandria (Pharos) or the Egyptian Kings (Pharaohs)?
Also, everyone likes to know what happened to the band members over time? Where are they today, etc. And, of course, what kind of gear did they favor (if still remembered!), and the eternal question of whether anything else was recorded ...

Hi Tony, and welcome to SG101! Very cool to read your post and "connect" (even in a small way) with a musician who played on that awesome track.
No one else has popped the question, and I hope it's okay to ask... how was it working with Frank Zappa in the studio? That is assuming he actually recorded/engineered "Pintor" and "Rhythm Surfer"?
I'm a huge FZ fan (on many levels) and would love to hear any recollections you have of the session. Zappa and surf music overlap only occasionally (and even then somewhat shrouded in mystery), so I'd love to hear any details you can share. Thanks in advance!

UPDATE: I just re-read one of the related threads on SG101 and learned that apparently Pintor was recorded in '63. I'll leave my post as-is and invite Tony to share any cool memories from his time with the band beginning in '64... FZ-related or not! :-)

Someone needs to write a tune called "I Got Shoved Off My Board At Malibu By Miki Dora."

Maybe Johnny Fain could write that one?

I think Whorehay needs to write the tune, "I hate Miki Dora". That'll be the only verse in the song over and over.

Tony says the occasion was his cousin's wedding.

Wow, this is so neat. Thank you, Tony, for putting a story and some info behind "Pintor." It's up there among my list of favorites. When I think of bands covering it today, nobody does it better than Outerwave, in my humble opinion.

This will be the album cover--Dora aiming his board at some dude & nailing him...Surfing with the Spahn Ranch Boys! ![Very Happy Very Happy](/media/smiley/images/icon_biggrin.gif)
For the record, Norm & I already hashed this out in private. There is no feud between us on this, as far as I know. However, I didn't see his suggestion for a song title until today & thought I'd have some fun with it.

Jump on it, Whorehay! You've got Jeff's endorsement! Although, the lyrics need some work. I still think it should just be you yelling "I Hate Miki Dora" over and over kinda like Surfin' Bird.
