Indeed! Interesting to note that probably not very much jazz was played on a Jazzmaster... it is without a doubt a surf guitar.

Say Norm, I have an internet friend looking for an old Surfer issue with the ad for something like "Dan Wallace's Hawaii Holiday Summer School". He went to the Islands for the session then and hoped I could scan the ad from one of my old Surfer issues. Well, I don't have many anymore. I thought I'd ask you. Bob, I don't have many issues from '68 but I'll take a look. I will surely let you know if I find that article. —BOSS FINK "R.P.M." available now from DOUBLE CROWN RECORDS! |

Fender goes British Invasion in this ad from the March '67 issue of SURFER. Those darn moptops! Notice the double-decker bus and the caption "Shot on location in London, England". The musical landscape had obviously changed as reflected in this ad. —BOSS FINK "R.P.M." available now from DOUBLE CROWN RECORDS! |

Hey! I just got an email from one of the models in these ads, Edie Carhart, check it out!!!! Hey, that's me in those ads - the 3 with the girl in the 1960s bikini. We shot them mostly in Laguna Beach where I lived and surfed. They were all taken in the mid 60s - not the late 60s because I graduated from HS in 1965 and did those a couple of years before. Maybe you can retroactively make her a RFB girl Whorehay? Another email and link with photos from Edie:

Very cool that Edie found this thread! The little surfer girl, Fender ad model, and Disney mermaid...that pretty much makes her an icon of the '60s Southern California culture we celebrate in this music. My first visit to Disneyland was when we were living in S. Pasadena in '65-66. I loved the Submarine ride, and now I like to think she was one of those waving mermaids. |

I love this thread. I would have been about 10 years too late to see her at Disneyland around '75, but I remember Submarine Voyage well, it was a great attraction. I was lucky enough to have seen both versions of the Haunted Mansion too! — |
