Anyone out there use AER?

I would go with the gallien krueger 800RB too. I had an 800RB it was a clear well defined basstone with the right amount of dirt in it. With my Precision Bass and LaBella Flats it sounded quite amazing! Had many year an 100 Watt Silverface Bassman before but i like the GK Stuff more. Last few Kilauea Gigs a played only with an GK MB150 Top... ;)

Well, I finally bit the bullet and upgraded my bass rig and am absolutely blown away by this thing! I've been doing what seems like endless research into exactly what to invest in knowing that I definitely needed a tad more power to compliment the Insects' dual guitar attack and an incredible deal on CL was all that it took to finally seal the deal. I've been extremely happy with a pre-Fender SWR that I've had for years now, so I started looking into other models of that time period with more power. It turns out that the Basic 350 "Red Face" of 93-94 is a very highly revered and coveted "vintage" model. And, paired with an older Triad cabinet, creates a rig to be reckoned with. I've always known that I wanted a 15", but the beauty of the triad is getting a 15, 10 and tweeter for an incredible frequency range and response all packed into a tank-strong yet compact cabinet. I used it for a rehearsal last night and couldn't be more stoked! Tonight's Mermen show will be the real first test. Yeah, it's not an ultra-modern light as a feather MarkBass or Genz Benz, a vintage Fender or Classic SVT, but it sounds unbelievable and just right for my applications. Stoked! I cannot recommend these older SWRs enough.

In the 90s I played an SWR Grand Prix though the SWR Stereo 800 bridged into 2 Eden David 410s, after years of havig amps that would eventually crap out from not having the power.

I was never at loss with this rig and it always put a smile on my face when I fired 'er up. Oh I also used a dbx over/easy compressor because I played fretless. It was a 5-string (low B) and we had 2 full kit drummers, 2 guitars and myself. Pretty loud!

Now I have this Mark Bass which sounds great and is very lite and portable. http://www.markbass.it/product_detail.php?id=99

Not too crazy about the yellow, especially on the drivers!!!, but it did deliver on the few times I've used it. Don't really play bass these days.

The Eden heads do sound great. At least the old ones did. I've heard the SWR amd Eden stuff is not what it used to be, but I don't know that from personal experience.

I thought it sounded great too.
Great low end ooomph, and good mid-range attack.
you must have had the high end rolled off some.
because I wasn't hearing any fret or pick attack I was afraid of with the horn.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

Don't these cabinets have a knob in the back that allows you to dial in the amount of signal that is sent to the horn?

I didn't get a good look at it, well have to wait for Jonpaul's reply.
I've also seen some amps with a on/off switch for the horn.

As a matter of fact, JP, yes..yes they do! Yet another awesome feature to this dream cab! (see photo below-not mine) Well, the rig passed all the tests this weekend--1 rehearsal in close quarters and 2 separate gigs at completely different sounding and sized venues. Actually, 3 different bands used the amp at one of the gigs--Casino 66, Insect Surfers and The Woolly Bandits, and it sounded amazing with all 3! So stoked!

Now THOSE are surf bass amps! Awesomeness!

I've been using an old Mesa Boogie Buster bass amp 2x15 combo. 200 watts via 6 6l6's. Works GREAT in the "surf" context!

(on top is an Aguilar TH350 ultralight amp I've been toying with. That little thing is just as loud and earth shaking as the 200w tube Buster!)

I really like the look and sound of the new Fender tube amps. There are 300w and a 100watter with variable power. The 100 watter with a 2x12 would be pretty sexy in my band! Someday...

I have two rigs:

1) Ampeg SVT3Pro (450 watts at 4ohms) Ampeg HLF 4by 10 cab.
2) TC electronics RH 450 and TC electronics RH210 cab.

The Ampeg was my first rig and it rocks. Great for surf music but very versatile with the 9 band EQ. I sometimes use my sans amp for tube dirt as another "channel" which adds versatility. Down side: the f#cking thing was 130 lbs. Unless it is an easy load in, this rig is too huge to lug around and I use it in my studio.

The TC is nothing short of awesome. Class D mini that packs all the punch my SVT brings with programmable memory and everything. whole thing weighs 38 lbs! Not quite the sweet spot the SVT tube preamp brings but awesome nonetheless. The 210 cab also has the "dial a horn" features which is great. The 210 gives me top end and the QSC Ksubs we use in the PA shakes the floor.
