Permalink learning guitar - The Penetrators songs

New Topic

I'm finally getting around to learning the guitar and love surf/spy tunes. This, of course brought me to the Penetrators recently (sorry to hear the what the band has gone through in the last year or so). Locked & Loaded is one of my favorite albums. I'd love to learn the songs but can't seem to find any tabs any where. I'm no where good enough to play by ear or figure tabs out for myself yet.

Also, anyone know if there are plans to release Kings of the High Speed Weekend on iTunes or where it can be found on CD?

Thanks for any help, hope to be a active member once my poor finger tips stop hurting and get some decent callous built up Smile

Great album. I recommend you get the DVD 'Declassified' as well. Fantastic.

Haven't found any tabs, but then again I try to stay away from them. I recommend the Tascam guitar trainer.

This is the one I have. There is a newer model, as well as one that uses mp3s. It slows the songs down without changing pitch, and you can loop sections to work them out. Got mine off of eBay for $50. I've worked out the first part of "Another Time, Another Place", although I haven't been back to it in a while.
Haven't quite figured out how to figure out the rhythm line of songs yet.

If you get in touch with Sticks, I think he may have some copies of High Speed Weekend. (need to pick one of those up myself) I believe the band website has a couple of mp3s from that album you can download.

Hey staredge, does this guitar trainer have an external speaker or do you have to hook it up to computer or external speakers. Looks nice.

You can also use free software like Audacity to slown down and loop songs while keeping the pitch.

Mark Twain said that "there are three kinds of mendacity, lies, damned lies and statistics". Had he lived in the age of Internet tablature I'm sure that would have figured prominently on his list. Smile

Even humble Windows Media Player allows you to slow down tracks.

I use headphones. Guitar plugs into the unit itself. (it has an effects package, although I don't really use any of them) You could run a line out into an amp CD input though, if you wanted.

I know Media Player and Audacity allow you to slow stuff down as well. Media player only drops it one speed...the nice thing about the Tascam is I can take it all the way down to half speed, then bump the speed up as I get better with it.

As for tab.....I'm not totally anti-tab, I just find it easier for me to learn it by ear. I use tab for chord progressions and figuring out things like double stops. YMMV. Laughing

Thanks for the heads-up on the Tascam guitar trainer. I have a lesson this Friday so maybe I'll talk to my instructor about it.

Yup. I like that you can very precisely select a passage and have it loop such that the tempo is preserved as it jumps from back to front, so you don't stumble picking up the rhythm again.

The MacOS QuickTime Player has a speed control and looping playback option too, but it's harder to make precise selections.

I'm not a complete idiot. Some parts are missing.

My instructor and I spent a little time tabbing out Another Time, Another Place so I could get a start with it. I did find a good price on a Tascam trainer so hope to get started with it soon. Been trying to learn The Venture's song Hurricane and I think the Tascam will help a lot.

Keep up on eBay. It took me a while, but I got mine finally for about $50.

Again, Audacity is free. Even if you have an old computer it should work fine for this purpose. You can "see" the song graphically as a waveform, then use your mouse to select the section to loop (you can get very, very precise with this), and then slow it down to any arbitrary speed. It really helped me out.
