Be careful following the masses. Sometimes the "M" is silent...........................

See, Billy gets it!

I'm going to make an instructional video on how to play golf, but I'm going to use a garden hose...... and an egg.

Good points - You may also want to add "Lady" and "Gaga" to you list - Laughing that a joke.

For good measure, I'll begin shooting the next video around "Twilight", and maybe invite my neighbor, "Jonas", who has a couple of "Brothers".

Yeah, thats me and some of my band playing with Eddie Bertrand, Tim Fitzpatrick, and Jim Frias, not to mention the above mentioned John Benton.

That's a surf lesson!

Epic... who or what is producing the siren sounds? Laughing

At the Beginning of the Video,
you can see Tim(HB Kahuna) cranking the handle on a old hand siren that they would mount to a cop car.
also Jim Frias ex of the Nocturnes is blowing on a sax mouth piece,
like the guy from the Original did.

Maybe the issue about getting higher hits has to do with the search function on YouTube. Perhaps if the words "surf guitar" were somewhere in the title, we would see The Madeira's numbers up there where they should be?

That's partially correct; like any other search engine, it has a lot to do with the meta tags (which is possibly more important than your description). For instance, here is the Madeira video tags:

Madeira surf rock sandstorm pongracic space cossacks

Very bare bones... even though "Madeira" and "pongracic" equates to sheer awesomeness with all of us in the know, many people are just not going to stumble upon this gem doing casual searches.

My one and only youtube video is inferior in every way, but has received almost 1465 hits since November 2009. Why?

surf surf-rock guitar shred instrumental misirlou hava nagila Michael Brennan morphball Pulp Fiction Quentin Tarantino Greek Jewish Middle-Eastern Yamaha SGV800 Gomez El Sonido G-spring Alesis SR-16 Sony PCM-D50 Flip Mino HD Audacity Adobe Premiere Surf Coasters Meshuggah Beach Party Dick Dale

My advice is to just throw ANYTHING that you can think of in the tags, no matter how far a stretch.

Thanks for that, Morphball, that's actually really great advice, and one we can easily follow! you can tell none of us in the Madeira are very promotion-oriented, sad to say! So, we appreciate this.

No problem... just put "Meshugga Beach Party" in the tags and description like I did and you're golden! Oy Vey

I'm pretty sure YouTube treats the words in the description about the same as words offered as keywords. And it seems to treat "x y" as a keyword the same as x and y as separate keywords. I can't see that there's any weighting one way or the other. I'd be interested to learn of contrary experience.

I think the only difference is that you get some slight chance to present the words in the description as a coherent essay that someone might read. Not a lot of a chance, but some. So, try to write a short description and use keywords for things that don't fit the text. Like if the guitarist decided to strip naked or is playing a Rogue Sitar or something that doesn't quite fit your textual needs. (Yes, I have seen these happen, as improbable as they both may seem. Not yet at the same time.)
