I was just recording this simple guitar part for a friend's song - this is my Tele with the lipstick pickup in the bridge. It's got a little bit of neck pickup blended in (guitar is wired like a Jazz Bass), but it's mostly bridge pickup. It's one of my favorite sounds:

Uma,
That's a very nice sound. I'd say it has a lot of the classic lipstick tone. Mixed with some country twang. So what was the tremolo you were using there as well as the rest of the signal chain?

Cool track..I'll add one..scroll down to mid page "Laredo Sunset" Kent Armstrong neck pup..on a baritone

That's also an excellent sound and song! The combination of the lipstick pups with the baritone depth is really nice. I've come close to picking up a Danelectro reissue or a Jerry Jones baritone but never quite did it. Hmmm...

Thanks! I was using two OLC pedals - a Professor Tweed set clean just to to add presence, and a Darth Fader tube tremolo. Recorded direct into Amplitube Fender, using the 57 Deluxe model w/ tape delay and reverb.

Cool- thanks. You went direct, I would not have guessed. I don't have any effects pedals at all (OK, except for a reverb tank if that counts). I've been thinking about getting some pedals to play around with- tremolo, fuzz, delay, etc. Just trying to see what people use when I hear a nice sound.

Yeah, I really have no other option at the moment. But I'm pretty happy with Amplitube Fender. Although, I prefer my pedals' dirty sounds to their simulated amp distortion. Their clean tones are great though.

Nice clip. Sounds like they would be ideal for the Spaghetti Western stuff.

It's always good to hear from the other Dano/Hodad freaks. I'm thinking about putting a couple of Pro-Tubes http://store.guitarfetish.com/prlipi.html on mine.

Danos? Here is a picture of my first elecrtic. It was a 1959 white Dano double short horn Custom (three pickups). I got it from an older kid in town in 1960. Got that along with the dano amp and Dano reverb tank. (the amp is also in the pic.) I had a Bigsby put on it not long after I got it.

Here it is with the Bigsby. (I'm on the far right).

The two lipstick p/us on my Jerry Jones baritone made a believer out of me. Excellent, fat twang. Later got hold of a JJ like Telestar guitar, with two lipsticks. Same deal.

yup, they sound GREAT on a baritone! I have a dano 12-string w/ lipsticks and they are super great for that too. I will someday work that 12-string into a surf tune.

I LOVE Lipstick tubes, primarily in old Dano/Silvertones. I prefer the older pickups with A6 magnets, they have more depth and varied dynamic response than modern equivalents with A5 magnets IMO. I have had a few reissues that sounded great as well, I must admit. I do think that the advent of all these wonderful boost pedals, whether its a Boss EQ or a Boutique boost pedal, has increased the flexibility of these and other low output guitars.
I use my lipstick pickup Danos for all kinds of music including Surf/Instro.

I used to have a Danelectro DC '59 reissue, 2 pickup double cutaway. I thought it sounded pretty good, the lipsticks were a little hot but not like a humbucker, they just had a unique, almost telecaster sound to them. Yea, I'd say close to a tele, more jangle.

I bought my 12-string from these guys and it went well but it needed some extra setup. Too bad the barrys don't have a whammy bar

I'm not familiar with the reissue stuff but I've heard some older ones that sound great.
Here's a link to a demo I did using my lipstick tube loaded '65 Silvertone model 1457. I can't brag about my performance but I think the sounds are pretty solid!
