The coloured icons that indicate subects read or not.
They're a good reason to be signed into SG101 because otherwise you'd loose track of discussions.
About three times a week all subjects become "read" whether i've read them or not, i'm curious to know if this is normal.

Yes, it is. Information about your last visit is stored in cookies, which occasionally expire.
You can use the Comments module to review the last 10, 20, or 50 forum posts if this happens. Just flip the little drop down from "News" to "Forums".
In SG101 v2.0 I'm going to store information about which topics you have read and haven't read in the database instead of cookies. So this problem should happen less often. Currently I am implementing a rolling 1 week window for each user. We can try tuning that number once we going.

The coloured indicator icons are a good feature and make the reading process a leisure.
