neal, I see an occaisional "build your own guitar" kit at eBay (USA) while grinding through the listings for "Strat body" or "Stratocaster body" for the surfer Strat I am building from individual parts I am purchasing from eBay. The kit bodies I have seen are basswood, which I understand has a really good tone for electric guitar but is not considered a durable wood, i.e., don't drop it or tighten your pickguard screws too tight. While buying parts a piece at a time from eBay is decidedly frustrating, in the end I should have a pretty good guitar as I don't have to accept some parts aggregator's low quality bottom line choices. thanks surfcat. these kits are actually a specific branded kit. i think they were discussed back when sg101 was a yahoo list. i just cant remember the name, but i do remember they were cheap, and the headstock was a block of wood to be carved down because the fender head designs are trademarked. |

Here is a link to a review of the SAGA Strat clone kit by a guy who actually built one. Sonds like it came out pretty good all things considered. http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/reviews/electric_guitars/saga/s-style_electric_guitar_kit/index.html SurfCat |
