I have a new strat with the S-1 system on it... what do you folks think of the Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups?
They seem to lack personality... and I hate 5 way switches, I am thinking about trying the Lollar blackface, any pickup suggetions?
Thanks
Tom

its hard to get surf tone with those pups. They are really good for a heavy distortion sound though.

I think the SCN pups work fine for me with the surf tone (not so much with the S1 engaged, but is useful for some rawer, pseudo surf tones). Put this way - if I want a twangier sound, the S1 is off - If I want a beefier, almost Southern Culture on the Skids type tone, I use the S1 on. Personally - I think it makes for a pretty versatile guitar.
Here's a vid of me using my AmDlx Strat on Misirlou...all bridge position, no S1:

Butch That tone is familiar! I have found that the back pickup sounds fine, any other pickup or pickup combo is not cutting it for me. I may just drop some Seymour Duncan Vintage Staggard pickups in... and a three way.
