Almost wanted to put this one in the shallow end.

wow, that's one of those, it's so horribly bad it's good video.

I've seen this before. The Ventures trying to stay relevant in the 80's? God awful. Let's not forget they did a disco song too. The Ventures doing Disco!!! I'm trying to forget but can't. Warning:not for the squeamish.

As Disco goes it's not the worst I've heard. I guess you do what you have to to keep the lights on.

The artist formerly known as: Synchro

When Surf Guitar is outlawed only outlaws will play Surf Guitar.

The Ventures truly were chameleons of their time.
don't forget the walk don't run 77 disco version
and walk don't run 2000 ska version.
Shocked

However one may want to justify the reasoning behind it, I don't see how fans of 60's instrumental music can fail to be sickend by those videos.

So THAT'S where it came from! I have a Beloved Invaders DVD of questionable legitimacy that had this video before the movie. I could never figure out a.) Why someone would do that, and b.) All of the above.

Let's not forget they did a disco song too.

The whole Rocky Road album is in that vein. Puke

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

This is only vaguely relevant, but has anyone heard Daikaiju's disco song? It's one of my favorite new instro tunes in a while. Frigging epic.

Here's a video, though it doesn't do the song much justice, especially without the extended syncopated ending. I figure only anyone who's seen them play live will know what I'm talking about, but this song must be heard!

That's Rodney Bingenheimer driving the car at the beginning. I wonder if he put them up to this...

It's possible, but The Ventures have had other lapses in judgment... the Rocky Road Disco album being their worst offense. The Ventures Play The Carpenters is a close second. Or the Jim Croce songbook? (Insert holding back gag sound here).

But since they put out so much great stuff, some of it is forgivable. Well, except for the disco album.

A truly frightening video (the originally posted one that is).

Enjoy every minute

I motion that we change the subject to "must not see". I'm not even going to watch the disco vid, as I don't want to further taint my image of them... let's just remember the happier times...

I have almost all of their albums up to 1967. After that, The Ventures simply doesn't exist to me.

I concur Baron the disco song sucks.I've hated it ever since someone at One Way Records decided to put this on Go with the Ventures!/Batman Theme CD.That tune isn't something you wanna hear at the end of those two awesome records or ever the way I see it.
I can stomach the Wipeout 2017 song though, sure it's cheesy as hell, but it's funny, and call me crazy but the crazy guitar solo's are kinda cool too .

Well than you my friend are sadly missing out on some great albums as far as I'm concerned " RADICAL GUITARS (1987)" "Golden Pops / Pops in Japan '71 " "Pops In Japan - Vol. 1 / Pops In Japan - Vol. 2 " has some really great songs that any Ventures fan shouldn't be without.

I'm sure most here have seen my posts about not being a raving Ventures fan.

well I got some promo copies of the cds that Brandonio has mentioned above
and there is (some) really good stuff on there.
definitely better than their disco, carpenters, or Jim Croce stuff.
Wink

I don't know if I would have bought them,
but it is worth checking out if possible.

It's not necessarily about songs, but rather sounds.

The pie in the face gag is timeless!

At the one Ventures show I went to in the 90's, I bought a cool, clear vinyl NASA-commemorative album for $5....HORRIBLE!
