actually that wasn't that bad, but I would attribute that to Johnny Bartlet being there.

seems Like when Johnnys not there, it goes to slopsville.

Judging by this performance, the Phantom Surfers are still one of the best modern time surf bands!

Bump-worthy in a nod to Ralf's entry for #1 Band yet to see. Who wouldn't want to witness a night of this!?!?

Makes me wonder why they aren't talked about more around here...

I asked, they decided that they aren't a good fit for the Convention.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

I feel the Phantoms are one of the most mischievous and trashy of our contemporary surf bands. I am curious about why they declined to play the SG101. Did they feel it wasn't drunk enough?
We could fix that!

Squink Out!

I'm ok with their decision.

What about one of the pre/post shows? A lot of traveling folks (as well as many locals) would LOVE to see them.

There live show isn't really surf,
Mostly gararge/comedy with a couple surf songs.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

When they played Tiki Oasis in 2009 it was all surf. Great guys. That's the last time I saw them and Johnny had just re-joined.

Seeing them 15 times or so,
2008 tiki oasis was the only surf show I saw them do,
It was also the only show I had seen of them with Johnny
And no Russel there.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

I corrected it. It was 2009. I hadn't seen them since 1996 or so, so it had been a while. Maz had told me that he was about to go tour Europe with the Mummies for perhaps the last time.

I had contacted the Phantom Surfers and asked them to become part of NPR´s International Beach Ball CD in 1994.
When I remember correctly they even didn´t answer my letter but Domenic Priore told me that they don´t like releases on cds.
So they missed that great compilation, voted No.6 record of the year in the Billboard magazin.
I just believe they are a very self conscious band who do what they wanna do and not people want them to do??
RuediGer

I'll go along with Jeff on them. I don't like bands that talk for seven minutes between two minutes songs. Way too much talk story.

Happy Sunsets!
