hy guys,
i set up my strat for slide today, because strats make the best slidesound for me. from now on i will play all my surfstuff on my telecasters without any whammy. i may be the black sheep here, but i will be doing fine. dick dale is playing without a whammy too, right? i will have to learnsome real divebombs with the e-string tuner and some more behind the nut bends. guess i will survive....

There's an article in this month's Vintage Guitar magazine wherein Jerry Cole reveals the rig he used on those Instrumental albums back iin the 60's was a Broadcaster/Tele into a Twin Reverb. I'm sure you'll be fine.

I'm kind of the same way. I guess cause we both play telecasters, right? I just never really been that good at the whammy. That and I've rarely ever had enough time to really get any practice with the techniques without my guitar going out of tune (afraid to use it). Although I'm sure with the right guitar properly set-up would fix that. Anyway I've taken off the bar on my guitar (that s.o.b's ALWAYS in the way) been practicing at twisting that e tuner around and about 50% of time I can bring the tuner back in tune to E first try! And you can absolutely play surf without a whammy bar.

just buy a whammy pedal ;)
I started playing surf on a tele, it is really not the hugest deal. But it would be hard for me to switch back from the jag/jm world.

Using a whammy bar is like the easiest aspect of playing guitar. All the other stuff is a lot harder. Why are some people afraid of it?

i think its the best part to! i think most of the trem bars are designed wrong, maybe thats why people think they are akward, i usually bend mine to where i want it. i usually snap mine about every 2 years where ill have to drill out the part with threading.

well guys,
i reactivated my tremolosystem on my strat. guess what: the nut is damaged. now it will be replaced with a graphtec nut by a real expert. i think i will use the tremoloarm after taht operation with more confidence. the telecaster i played during the last rehearsals sounded absolutely fantastis for surf. its a 52 ri, a pretty expensive one, but it does the surf/spy thing with ease. so i have two options now. man am i lucky!!!

The nut was damaged, because of the whammy?
I've been thinking of sticking mine back in there, but it will need a lot work to get it working smoothly enough.
