I know they are not really surf, but what do you all think of these guys? they have played some shows with the Insect Surfers, and Slacktone, because "those bands are real good" Marc the bass player says.
But they don't want to be known as a surf band, and he kinda gets
frustarted when I tell him that I hear their songs on the Internet surf radio shows.
They blow my mind, and one time when they played a show with Slacktone at the Pitcher House, many surf fans who had never seen them before, just stood there scrathin their heads, with a
look on thier faces.
classic,

actually that probably isn't the bands official web site. Its the lables
site with all the bands on thier repitoire. If you go back to home, I think there is a shopping cart.
hope that helps.

What do you expect Jeff, they rarely play shows and the last time they came to S.F. was 6 years ago. They have almost zero internet presence and don't promote themselves. They have one CD- "Comb in blue water" that came out what, 8 years ago? How can you expect anybody to have heard them?

From the soundbytes on the site, I think I'd like to check these guys out. The sound kinda reminds me of Phono-Comb/Shadowy Men a bit.
Thanks for the heads up.

Sorry, I didn't mention that they are quite an extrordinary band. Really quirky spy surf twang.

I meant some replies after people going to the web link and listening to the sound clips, then commenting.
and on the web link it mentions their 2nd cd "Danger High"
and not their 1st self released one "Comb in Blue Water"
and all the music that they have done for tv and movies.
I do know that the drummer is in 7 other bands, and the slide guitar player is in a Alt. Country band ( I see hawks in L.A. )
And Mark the Bass player plays with King Kukulele sometimes and is a session musician. So that explains why they don't do alot sometimes. They were voted the best instro band in L.A. weekly 2 years in a row, and then the Insect Surfers got it after them. This is definelty a vanity project for them.

I bought their album when I really felt like some spy-surf and honestly never really got into. I'm giving it another listen right now

Cool deal Dane,
I've seen them a few times late on a Sun. Nite at a dark Martini type bar, where they do some Alt. versions of their sets.
1. is where on every song they throw in sections of Charles Mingus songs.
2. the Bass player plays a acoustic stand up bass, and they do
slow/Jazz/Herion versions of their songs.
really a must see if you get the chance.
If I find out that they are playing, I'll post it.
But they are kinda on Hiatuss right now, as 2 guys are on the road with other bands. but shows do pop up occasionally.

Danger High Rules! Its a pretty varied album. There are a few songs that fit extremely well together and then some others that do their own thing.
Key Sara Sarah is one of the oddballs(not in a bad way) in that it is pretty uptempo and catchy, like hawaiian western stomp feel. I'd love to hear them work more tunes into their sound like that one. This album really grew on me. Pascal records I guess just didnt have the resources to give it much of a push. Last year the Blue Hawaiians live at the lava loung II disc was at radio and I remember talking to David Pascal about some of his bands. He said that the BH disc was the first that he had to opportunity to really launch a radio push.
