Hey Mel,
I've also got the Spring King. I've thought the Fender Reverb tank would be much better, but this was in my price range. Do you use it with the knobs turned all the way up?

The Fender tank (with my 3 springs in it) sounds much better than the Spring King. But I've heard Bens clips of the Spring King with a Fender tank spring it and it sounds pretty good too. Just a matter of what you like and don't like.
Spring King settings I used were Vol 9, Tone 6, Reverb 8 are what I normally used or around there. I have been meaning to get around to doing some mods to it to see what it does. The stock spring sounds a little thin to me so I think a longer spring like Ben used would help it some. Thus I plan on putting in a longer spring unit (the one out of my Fender RI tank).
But I don't want the thing laying all over so I was going to either rebuild it in a new box, or get a custom metal enclosure for it. Another one of those projects I'll get around to when I run out of current projects...:D

That is one cool looking pedal. I have a Digitech RP100 which has a repeat function that I'm toying with. It was only $50 Canadian, and offers various effect options. If echo and repeat are pretty much the same, I can use that.
Question for the group - what pedals help you obtain your surf sound?
Cheers
Chaz, to me no pedals achieves the surf sound, basically all u need is a good amp, a nice reverb unit, and a decent guitar. that's if ur talking about the Traditional surf sound a la Dick Dale.. but that's just me, im sure other people rely on an effect rack to get that sound.

I don't think any effect rack I've ever heard will mimic the traditional Fender'ish sound that Dick Dale has. His sound is just too distinct.
If that's the type of sound you're seeking Chaz, your options for achieving it are going to be pretty limited and require a larger budget than pedal costs. Don't make the mistake and settle for something less as a short term bandaid (save if you have to and get what you really want). It'll be cheaper in the long run...
