What's your favorite vibrato/tremolo?
I wanted to experiment with making a poll. Enjoy!

I voted for the Jag trem.
Bigsby used to be my favorite, but I'm not such a fan now, its the arms fault and its placement on my gretsch.

I really, really liked the trem that was on my old Mustang. I like it much better than the one on my Strat now, and I've never used the rest on the list. I voted for Other.

I was a big fan of Bigsby for a long time...still am, but...
the Jazzmaster/Jaguar style trem is so sweet for the surf action...
still don't care much for the Stratocaster style tremolo...
still like to try a Moseley style tremolo someday...

I've had guitars with all of them and for what I do with Surf I prefer the Jag/Jm type. It's smoother and more responsive with heavier strings. Strats are OK but there's more dicking around to get the balance right for that gentle Surf wobble I'm so fond of. Bigsby's sound and work OK but are a PITA to restring and have a tendency to be less stable tuning stabilitywise for me.

I'm all about the Moseley, although mine frustrates me from time to time because my roller wheels in the bridge are starting to corrode, and because of that, they don't always roll like they're supposed to.
Bigsby trems are a marvel, but I agree with Fripperton about the PITA to change strings on. My other gripe is that the arm is so dang short. I am spoiled with Jag/JM and also Moseley arms, which are looooooong. (Anyone seen Johnny Bartlett's custom arm? The friggin thing coils around!) But the plus side of the Bigsby is that it's smooth as silk, and you can do the wonderous pull up in addition to the push do drop the pitch.
Jag and JM.... all I can say is "like buttah".
For me personally, Strat trems are a biatch.

But Chad, you forgot the Floyd Rose!!!!

Bill Maybe if you lived where it wasn't so cold and foggy(possible cause for corrosion) you wouldn't have that problem.

for surf, I really think the Jag's trem wins hands down. For death metal, I am going to have to vote for Floyd Rose!

i've never owned a jazz/jag style trem. i get really turned off by all the horror stories of arms falling out, buzzing, lack of sustain, strings popping off the bridge
so far, i have to say i love bigsby the best. strat is too touchy, and it has to be set up just right. my mosrite 'vibramute' trem is okay... it's not the most stable thing, i hate yanking up on the bar to reset pitch. it just needs to actually be set up with heavier strings. _ but i love how subtle it can be. and i love being able to pull up and raise pitch as on a bigsby.
but so far, i have to say that a bigsby unit is the most stable i've ever used._

I prefer the Jag/JM trem for surf, the Bigsby for Duane Eddy type of stuff and the Mosrite trem for deep dive eleki style.

I had to cast my vote for "other," 'cause for now I don't own any guitars with tremelo, unless ya count my left hand. Left handed tremelo might not be too good for surf, but it's still possible to do some serious string bending. Anybody got any suggestions, as to what tremelo I should add to my Epiphone Les Paul Jr. 90, in the process of upgrading it, seeing as I'm planning to use it as a surf guitar? After all, what's surf guitar instrumentals without some well placed trem?

I think the Yamaha SGV's have the best. Nice feel, good travel, and a roller bridge. It has a little allen adjustment to keep the arm tight, too.
