I just activated my XM radio & took a trip this week, I know AOL is partnering with XM & on AOL radio thay have a surf station. I see nothing surf related in the XM Radio lineup. I seem to remember someone here mentionong a surf show on one of the XM channels.
On a side note, Im outbound on my trip this past week, I pull into this place called Harris Ranch off the I-5 west of Fresno, the home of the Neptunes,
( http://www.harrisranch.com/dine_steakhouse.html ) which is famous for it's beef. Nice place for the central valley. 95 degrees & smells like cows.. Inside the place is fantastic. The first thing I hear is the Surfaris' "Wipe Out" being played over the PA. That was the last place I expected to hear surf music. The beef? My filet was as good as I have enjoyed anywhere.
Anyway, Im looking for Surf on XM Satalite radio.

If I recall corectly, on the garage or independant station that Pat Dinizzio(sp?) of The Smithereens is the programmer for.
I think they have a short surf show on Sun night or some odd time.

Lou Brutus runs a show on Fungus 53, called Kowabunga Uber Alles (http://fungus.xmradio.com/) that plays surf music on Fridays.
The description from his Myspace Page is:
Kowabunga Uber Alles: Fungus style surf music. Hear punk bands doing surf songs mixed with old school surf music by artists like Dick Dale, Silly Surfers, The Ventures and Link Wray. (Friday 12 Noon Eastern and 9 PM Eastern)
He has played tracks from Surf Report and Charlie Does Surf - because I sent him discs. I know it gets played, and I know his show is listened to, because there's always a flurry of orders after he plays anything from a Rickshaw artist.
Check it out.

I try to listen in to "Kowabunga Uber Alles", but everybody really needs to send this guy their records. I think all he has is the Cowabunga box set and a Surf Punks album. No, two Surf Punks albums.

I just got a check for roughly $70 from BMI, paying me for all the broadcasting of my songs, and about $50 of that comes from XM Sat Radio, which played the Space Cossacks' "Apes Of Wrath", "PLanet of the Apes" and "Transatlantic Orbit" quite a few times each. I don't know when they're playing it, and what show, as I don't listen to XM, but SOMEBODY is playing some surf music on there - and God bless 'em for it! Let's see, what surf CDs will I buy with these $70. Hmmm.....

On AOL Radio which partners with XM Radio, I hear several Space Cossacks songs per hour. They obviously have good taste.

I might be joining the next century (meaning the one we're in now) as I'm starting to consider another vehicle & lots of 'em have these fancy schmancy beam-down-to-me radio things. (Potential perk: I can pick up Cubs games without having to do the proper re-grounding of the AM radio that few car makers have ever gotten right. Ever.)
Any update on the State-of-the-Surf vis a vis sat radio, now a decade down the road?

Thanks, very much; funny, I recalled that thread yet this one was the first thing that popped up in a general internet search of "surf music satellite radio."
Go SG101.
Guess I'll stick with CD's. If (big IF) I ever got a smartphone then Jeff's advice to simply get full-on data & use that for NSSR in the car is the ticket.
Off-topic musing: Ya know how you can use 2 fingers to expand a photo on a tablet or smartphone? I'd like to see something the size of my flip-phone that you can expand the whole device to the size of a large smartphone with your fingers but fits in a pocket like my little Samsung & only needs charging every 2 weeks under heavy use. Some young genius materials engineer should work on that.

The current sludge of popular music must be destroyed and rebuilt note by note. I can see no other way.

For those living in major markets, check HD radio stations in your area to see if surf music is playing there. The tune in app has an amazing number of music sources as well.

I often ponder such a Renaissance and what it would take to make it happen. Probably a near-extinction event...sadly.

SiriusXM is still playing instrumental surf music and has added instrumental Christmas music during the holidays. God rest ye merry Gentlemen indeed.
