Love those Hagstrom's... I've had my eye on a Viking Deluxe Tremar or an HJ500 for a while, and they sure are priced well compared to Gretsch & Gibson hollow bodies. Do you happen to know if their modern production is as up to snuff as their vintage ones were?

Ibanez Roadstar. Possibly even better Strat sounds than the Aria, except tuning is a nightmare.

Wow! I used to have this exact model (RG430, right?), except it was all black, including the guard. It was my first good guitar! (My second overall.) I got it for my 17th birthday. I miss that guitar, actually, though the tremolo made knocking noises that I could never figure out the source of....

Unfortunately all I know is that the new ones get pretty good reviews, the only new Hag i've played is an F200 model and it seemed pretty good.
My local music shop has a new Viking but I haven't tried it yet. Build quality of anything coming out of China these days seems really good.

Yep, RG430. The guard on this one was black originally too - when I bought it the guitar it had been "improved" with an EMG 81 humbucker in the bridge position, and I wanted to restore it back to 3 single coils. So I made a the new guard myself, once I managed to source the Ibanez pickup off ebay.
The pickups are called V7 blades, they only appear in a few Roadstar models and are hard to find second hand nowadays but they really are ace.

My interest in this got kind of piqued, so I started looking this up. Someone suggested 2008 and up are the way to go for Chinese-made Hags, so buying used might not be a good idea (unless they're vintage of course).

I did this to my white Kramer Baretta when I was about 15; the single EMG just ruined the sound, and I hardly played it when I got a Charvel. Horrible pickups IMHO.

I'm thinking of replacing the Mosrite's pickguard with a more vintage-spec mint one, this one is 3-ply and looks really Fendery.

MIJ guitars get pretty kinky when you're not looking.

Nice duo! How is the yamaha compared to the mosrite? I have a sgv800, but I've never touched a mosrite!

Ergonomically, you should feel right at home on a mosrite, unless zero-frets irk you. Trem is almost touch-sensitive vs a stratie SGV one... pickups are higher output, much stronger magnets.

That's not why he unloaded the Mosrite though.

Now, that sounds ominous. There isn't a gypsy curse on it, is there?

Here's my stuff....custom Tele '85....Hwy 1 Strat. Not the best camera....but maybe the best backyard???? I used to use the Tele all the time but now i use the Strat since i've gotten used to string muting which for me took a long time to get comfortable with. I used the Strat exclusively on our recent recording of original material. For the record...i used the Tele on "Pressure" from the '09 SG101 comp. Also for the record...i play upside down.

Jazzmaster pickups in the Danelectro Hodad! Cool! Does that make it a "Ho-Master"?

Whether it's a Ho-Master, a Jazz-Dad or a Dander, I would love to hear how it sounds. Cool idea.
