This is really a gorgeous album. I was just listening to it today for the first time in years. What are everybody's thought on this album. I know think of it as among MoAM?'s best work. If you don't like it are you judging it as a surf/instrumental recording or are not you as into the modern sound?

It sounds like some crazy Pink Floyd prog rock epic to me. I haven't listened to it in years. I did like it better than E.E.V.I.A.C.

You can't forget "Engines of Difference" on EEVIAC. I love that song.
I do agree that " A Spectrum of Infinite Scale" is an amazing album. I enjoy all their stuff for different reasons, and this album is great for the ambient, off the wall melodies. I also listen to this album as a sort of soundscape. I would it no way define this as a surf record or listen to it as such. This is just MOAM? I can't really put my finger on a way to accurately describe it.

I enjoyed simple text file for the shear novelty of it. It was pretty ingenious to come up with what they did. They brought out the printer during the stage set and just stopped everything to watch it, audience and astromen alike, i never would have imagined i would pay to watch (and cheer for) a printer.

It's definitely good for what it is--and it's way more consistent than EEVIAC. Birdstuff's playing is great throughout, and there's some very inspired moments during the first half.
It would have been interesting to see which direction they would have gone for a follow-up. On the one hand, it wouldn't be much of a stretch to see them continuing on in a similar vein. On the other, their tour-only CD from this era, A Spectrum of Finite Scale, is just noise, noise, noise.

Brian you say that like it's a bad thing
forgive me for a bit of off topic info for a minute.
My dad and I went sat. night to see a Floyd cover band do "The Wall"
in it's entirety. Then for an encore they did the whole "Dark Side of the Moon", and followed it up with a 15 min "Dogs" from the Animals LP.
It was amazing, we love floyd, but have never seen them, $150.00 is a bit much, even if they only come around every 10 years.
ok back on topic, I have all the Man or Astroman cd's and a ton of the 45's. I must say that I like the early stuff better. But there are songs on the later cd's that make them worth owning. At least in my book.
But it's been awhile since I broke them out. I usually go for
"What Remains inside a Black Hole", " Your Weight on the Moon" or
The first cd.

p.s. oh man I just had a great idea, The original Man or AstroMan, and Pink Floyd with Roger Waters should both re-unite, and tour together. And PF would let MOAM use their stage gear and projection equipment. Now that would be outta sight.

I didn't say I didn't like it...some of it is pretty good if I am in a non-surf mood.
I love Floyd also...saw them in '89. Awesome show.

"Infinite Scale" was a VERY hard CD for me to get into. Not knowing the progression of their sound I purchased this CD right after I got "Destroy All Astromen"...
Of course, years later I now understand the direction of their career and can appreciatte it.
It's become the "hedphone classic" of my surf CD collection.

I really really like this album, I like it as much as I like the other MOAM? albums, but in a totally different way. "The Song of the Two-Mile Linear Particle Accelerator Stanford University, Stanford, CA" is my favorite on the album. IMHO really cool stuff!

I'll stand in your corner, Brian... I'm a huge Floyd fan. Besides, Gilmour is a strat man! Does that mean nothing!!?? Incredible player.
I recently reviewed all of their album while cleaning up my iTunes, and I really like all of their stuff. I used to think of them as strictly a live band, but the more I listened, the more they really knock me over. Of course there are stronger albums than others, but all in all, they have a great body of work. As for Infinite Scale, I have to be in the mood for it, but when I am, it's a wild album. It's not what I tend to reach for when going for MOAM, but it's quality.

This album is simply amazing.
They did something nobody was doing then. I love "EEVIAC" and I love "A Spectrum..." just because with these albums they went far beyond surf/indie music. IMO "Embedded Electronic Variably Integrated Astro Console" a.k.a. "EEVIAC" is one of the best albums of the 90s.
MOAM were much more than a simple surf band. They borrowed from DEVO, Sci-FI, post-punk, prog-rock... even from dot matrix printers! They came from outer space! Please come back!

It is a rare thing with MOAM?, that I can listen to any one of their albums in it's entirety, and enjoy every song. I think I can safely say there aren't too many bands out there with such an huge amount of consistantly great material.

I agree! Most bands out today are just plain boring.Eeviac was a bit of a let down towards the end.The band at the point was eager to try different stlyes with the additional new members.Even though some songs around the end sounded like a Smashing Pumpkins throw away.I easily dismissed there lame stuff.

I know this topic is old but... oh well.
I absolutely adore A Spectrum of Infinite Scale. It was the first MOAM album I ever had (I guess I'm going backwards), and I don't know if that has anything to do with my liking it so much or not. I was just poking around on Touch and Go's website and happend to hear "Within One Universe There Are Millions" and fell in love with it. Although Spectrum seems to be more expiramental than surf at times it doesn't matter much to me. Aside from "Within One Universe there are Millions" my favorites are "Curious Constructs" and "/=".
MOAM ties with Alice Donut for my most favorite band ever.

Hooray for this album. I don't remember starting the thread.
Also, another song I love, not on Spectrum is "__/Myopia" off of EEVIAC. One of the most amazing tracks to listen to. So gorgeous.

EEVIAC, while not as consistent, has some good tracks. __/Myopia and Engines of Difference are both awesome.
