Well, I want a BD-2, not really for Surf, but I will try to incorporate it, and a reverb tank.
I used to have a BD-2. I could never make peace with it so I sold it. As I was preparing to ship it to its new owner I plugged it in using my Duo Jet. There is was, the perfect raunchy Blues sound. Pedals are like a box of chocolates, you never know just what you're going to get.

If you're looking to get one, I highly recommend modding it.
The mod I like the most is the "Tweed Amp Mod", you can find the parts on ebay for about $20.
It sounds amazing.
Maybe I should try that on BD-2/2.

I recommend it to everyone, it makes the pedal actually useable.
It takes away all the harshness and makes the gain knob super responsive.

I've got a Zoom G1 multi-effects pedal.
It gives me lots of different sounds, but I'm not really in love with it. Everything sounds flat to me.
The primary reason I got it, as opposed to something else, is because it's got a simple built-in drum machine, sort of like you find on keyboards.
You can also run it straight into headphones, if you're just noodling around and don't feel like breaking out all the equipment.

Harshness was the issue for me. I'd imagine that it would sound pretty good with P-90s.

I currently use
tiny miny bit of OD/boost
image
vibrato, for organ sound used with rhytm channel on jag:
image
both are true bypass through, and 95% of the time off.
admittedly I have a reasonable amount opf pedals and really like them, just dont find much use for them.
btw, I stay away form boss pedals religiously. most sound dull at best, they have the worst buffers ever, and for a few dollars more you can get real nice boutique-ish pedals these days, thanks to the internet.

A quick aside....Miles Corbin guitarist for the Aqua Velvets uses effects (chorus, verb and od) in a very balanced fashion.

You seem to mix boutique stomp-boxes with cheapo vintage simulations. I guess with a certain number of effects the amount of solder connections is as much a factor as effect design.

I don't really differentiate between boutique and mass produced. If it sounds good, it sounds good. Also, it's good to have at least one buffered effect at the end of a chain of true bypass pedals - it helps to counteract signal degradation due to all the in/out connections (though too many buffered pedals can have a negative effect on tone as well).
The Spring King is actually a real spring reverb, not a simulation. The Reel Echo obviously is a simulation, and honestly it doesn't sound anything like a real tape echo, but it does sound very nice.

It's really good. It does have some drawbacks - no self oscillation, and the "Warble" is a chorus rather than a vibrato - I would have preferred the latter. But it does have a very pretty sound, very hi fi. You can make it sound very dark as well, but you have to temper that with the mix/feedback, because the darker you set the tone, the quicker the repeats will appear taper out. Overall, sounds very nice, but has a few issues, which I personally can live with, but others may not. Obviously it's also very big.

I've always been a big believer of shopping with your ears and not your eyes. Ditto for the buffered pedal at the end of the chain.

I've heard a lot of good things about the Reel Echo.

my pedal arsenal is real old-school and sort of boring:
B K Butler Blue Tube preamp
Jim Dunlop Bass Wah-Wah
Carl Martin Surf Trem Tremolo
Carl Martin Red Repeat Delay
BBE Sonic Stomp
Fender re-issue reverberator

So, do like you have to call the local electrical authority and warn them when you're going to power "things" up...
Have wall somewhere with 88 walwarts in it?
Shares in Duracell?
But really, I want to see how you do the "river dance" on those top rows of pedals...:-)

I use a Maestro Fuzztone and occasionally an Electro Harmonix Wiggler for amps without tremolo.
