I've kinda stopped doing in depth reviews of shows, because I feel like I run of of words to describe what I saw/ heard.
But I thought this was worth mentioning.
So yesterday, Sun., my buddy Mark from San Diego was comin' up to see the LSJ's at the Lobster Fest in San Pedro. He's a hardcore fan of them.
he saw them thurs. in Solano Beach near SD. then Fri night in Hollywood, and wanted to see them one last time, so I asked him to swing by Huntington beach and pick me up, as I was at the Surfing Museum, watchin' 2 bands.
On the way to San Pedro he told me that Pete was going to be playing drums,
and I said "WTF?" as Pete is the bass player.
He said yeah Pete is gonna be on drums, and Sam Bolle of Slacktone would be on Bass.
this was a bit of a surprise, but not a total shock as the recent Neanderthals shows have had Sam on Bass, and Pete on Drums.
but I thought this would be cool as I have seen Pete play drums with the
Torquays and Boardwalkers and Hillbilly Soul Surfers, and with Teisco Del Rey at last years Deke Dickerson Guitar Geek Fest. and the night after for 2 hours with Teisco at the Purple Orchid, and Pete is a monster on drums, and Of course I've always enjoyed Sam's playing with Slacktone,
Agent Orange, Jon and the Nightriders and Dick Dale.
So even though I'm not a Huge LSJ's fan, I was pretty excited to see this show.
they pretty much played a mix of tunes from the new DVD that came out
of them playing live from a few years ago.
there was no guest singer , just them playing all instros.
and I was really happy about that.
not that their guest singers are bad, they are really good, and help put on a great entertaining show, but I wanted to see them do all instros again.
I gotta say that I think that Pete on Drums is better than Jason Smay or Jimmy Lester. Not that those guys are hacks, but I love Petes drumming,
just so fun and up beat and energetic.
And I thought that Sam did a great job on Bass, though he missed a few choreography ques and had a hard time seeing the bass, because the Mask he was wearing, Scott(the old bass players) kept sliding up, and the eye holes were really high. ha ha , So he kept tuggin on it to get it back down into place.
There was about 300 or so in the grass stage area, and everybody was diggin the band and eating up all the Spanish stage Banter Daddy O Grande throws out. So I walked over to the Merch Area where Miss Kay and Rev. Jim were switchin off selling the bands stuff for them.
and I noticed a new cd that I had not seen or heard of.
it was a CD(Audio only) version of all the tracks from the recent Live DVD they put out. Its called "Mas Alla Del Limite"
and its on a Mexican record label called Isotonic records.
so if yer interested in that, check out the bands web site, or try to get it from them live. they will be doing a East Coast tour soon, and Laika and the Cosmonauts from Finland will be doing a Farewell tour with them.
After the show we hung out for a bit and talked to the band,
It was good to see Danny again, hes a real cool down to earth guy,
(not that the others aren't) ha ha
As I got to talk to him quite a bit when he was playing Guitar with the
Widadli Riders a few weeks back.
anyways I had a great time seeing the LSJ's again, prob my 12th time.
and they always put on a really entertaining show.
go see them if you can.
