New Topic

I usually can figure out any song i please song by ear, but the part in Goofy Foot in which jim runs down the scale in 3 different octaves baffles me...

if anyone has or can tab it out can you please share?

He also does this same lick in another song, but slower. i cannot recall the title at the moment...

thanks!

The other tune Jim plays that in (slower) is Happy Gremmie.

I tried my hand at tabbing the lick you asked about. It will hopefully show up in the tab section as Goofy Foot 3 Octaves. As with most things on the fingerboard, there is probably another (easier?) way of playing it, but this tab reflects what I'm hearing Mr. Masoner play. I usually play my own version an octave lower starting on the first string at the 8th fret..like:

E 8_6________
A
_8_6__8_6_____3
D
_7657653______ 3___
G
_8_
5 3_____3_55_5_3_
B
_____ 4->5_4_3_11_3->5_

E _______3_1_3___

Disregard the notation on the left, it's upside down. Hmmm

I know it's not what JM played Zak. I tried to post that (his) in the tablature section, and like I mentioned, there's several ways to play the same thing on the neck. The tab (not posted yet..and _not _that above) was an attempt, but it comes pretty damn close (notewise) to what he did on the original recording..I listened to it real close and reeeeal slow. Sure, based on what Jim plays in the vid, it's still "wrong". The stuff you see above is what I usually play, cause I play left handed on a right handed Jag (strung right handed), and I can't hit the 20th fret on the first string (standing) too easily. Thx.
