Believe this one is just a comp..."Bo's" not backing DD up as I recall The Diplomat label did a lot of this...get the rights to a couple of tunes by a know artist and fill in the rest...

www.northofmalibu.com

They also turn up on the Hollywood Surfers' "Surf Family" LP, which - DD vocals aside - is really good.

There's a thread about that one here:

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

ha! thanks for visiting my blog

I've really come to like the album and wouldn't mind hearing more Bo Troy if I could ever find it. IIRC I've got the back cover of that album zipped along with the files but if there's anything else I can help you guys with to figure out more feel free to let me know.

Storm Surge of Reverb: Surf & Instro Radio

I think there were at least 3-4 budget label albums that used Dick Dale's "The Fairest Of Them All" and "We'll Never Hear The End Of It", with the rest of the album containing another band (usually a studio group). However, there is one exception, a really good no name comp on Guest Star Records which besides the two Dick Dale songs also has contributions from the Original Surfaris, The Surf Boys, and Surf Kings.

As for obscure Dick Dale stuff, check out this 1963 footage of DD playing guitar wearing a bathrobe (not taken from any of the Beach Party movies):

BTW Dick Dale played Surf before reverb. Ex: look up Surfin' from the movie Beach Party.

I also like to think that all early 60's fender equipment is happy to be playing surf music again. After all, its the music it was meant to play.

Huh? Beach Party came after surf music hit popular culture. And after reverb.

I thought it came out before reverb, and that had really bad audio.

Notice how Frankie is passing a joint to Deadhead at 2:57.

Double HUH?

Beach Party came out in '63, listen to the guitar sound at approx. 3:06-3:27...you don't hear the reverb?

I have no speaker on my computer, and have to use headphones, sorry.

Dick Dale claimed to have recorded Miserlou without reverb.

He may have meant Misirlou, a similar version, which originally was played without reverb, Dick, and many people confuse them.

What? Your headphones are incapable of hearing reverb?

First, that was more of a personal screw up, but it's an old song, and the headphones aren't extremely loud. Second: http://www.rhapsody.com/-search?query=misirlou&searchtype=RhapTrack

It's the second one on the list.
