OK, that is a little strong, I should say, The Pyronauts rule the universe, SOON. What an incredible band- a great new record of fresh sounding surf; a lively and engaging stage show; they play lots of gigs and are great guys as well. They are also young enough and motivated to keep their career rolling unencumbered. All these guys really need to do is take the show on the road, to America, Europe and beyond. If you haven't seen their shows in the Bay Area, check out their new CD, Surf and Destroy.

Danny, Paul
what do you guys think about doin a co-tour?
kinda like when the Anacondas, and Daikaju toured together a few years back.

or do you think that doin 2 seperate runs down would be more profitable for each band?

If I can be serious for a second, Rolling Eyes If the Pyronauts are going to take the next step forward in show business, I want to see some pyrotechnics, something to live up to their name. Have Paul jump through a circle of flame wielding his JM.

Well boys.....

The 1st time they came down here about 4 or 5 years back.
They did like 6 shows in one week. at 3 of them where there was tables they were always on top of them.
The Baja Cantina was the best. with them walking out through the window then onto the tables, than all around the patio area.
One of the most Lively shows at the Baja Cantina ever.

The Pyronauts always put a smile on my face. Very Happy
Nobody plays with more energy as a band. But
beyond all the wild antics, they consistantly back
it up with killer musicianship, excellent songwriting
and true love of the music. Their new CD, "Surf and
Destroy" is great. "Sifaka" , in particular, is a classic
tune. Paul & Bob have been awesome guitarists
for some time. The new kid playing the drums looked
like he was 15, but he was great. Brett has been a
good bass player in years past, but I've gotta say that
he has taken it to the next level. I was blown away by
his bass playing at the Hotel Utah on Friday. Wow!!!
Get the new CD, and see these guys if you're lucky
enough to get the chance. They R-A-W-K !!!!! Twisted Evil

yeah, maybe paint the faces black and white too...

Killer Bananazz use pyrotechnics, sort of. they tape sponge to their guitars headstock, dip it heavily in lighter fluid. then light it. and play it.
Do you think they have serious fire-preventing measures? inform the club? All this not too long after many kids died and even more got seriously maimed after a newyears-eve bar-fire in a bar that didn't follow regulations.

Ferenc, I think you saw this, what did you guys make of that?

Without derailing this thread too much, let me say that, in my opinion (and with many qualifications and apologies,) bands that have too many theatrics are often compensating for their inability to inspire musically.
The Pyronauts really don't need fire, and, again, in my opinion, it would not make their show any better. They have some very tasteful and well choreographed moves. They also do some jaw dropping stuff where Paul and Bob pick their guitar's strings while fretting the other's guitar. They ooze confidence and cool, and are always smiling and enjoying what they are doing. All that coupled with their superb songwritng, makes for a great show.

I want to heartily agree with everything that's been said about the Pyronauts so far. The Madeira had the honor of playing with them on our California tour in July, and they were great! They don't need any pyro gimmicks, they're great musicians with great songs and fantastic stage presence and show. Unfortunately, they were given a lot of grief over the volume issue (as were we) by the club, which was a big bummer and robbed them of some power in their sound, but the few originals (too few!!) they played that night were very impressive, even under those less than perfect circumstances. I'm definitely going to be picking up their CD very soon - can't wait!

I should mention that they are really cool, friendly and down-to-earth guys who were happy to line up this gig for us and let us use their gear, though they'd never even met us. The Pyronauts DO rule the universe!!

So you think my idea to construct a easily assembled water tank with wave machine and have actual surfers on stage (with sharks) whilst we play may be compensating for my inability to inspire Arrow

really, I wasn't expecting serious replys to what I wrote, I think I was hoping for more creative people than I to come up with even funnier things. Once again, the internet; not the best vehicle for subtle humor.

I've never been to the bay area for a surf show, but I really want to. I'm hoping to make that trip next year.

I was in the punk forum on My Space a couple of months back and someone brought up the Pyronauts. It was pretty random, considering what normally gets discussed there.

these ones right? there's a link to the online cd-store, sounds good. Im betting they're 1000 times better live though.

Wannes,
yes they do sound waaaay better live.
I've heard a few of the new songs on Clints show, and so far it sounds good. But I was a bit disapponted with the few last cds sound.
the x-mas one sounded amazing. I told Paul, whatever they do, make the new one sound like they do live, or like the x-mas cd ,
seems they did something right this time. Wink

Jeff(bigtikidude)
p.s. no offense on the old stuff guys, I do like them. just wish the verb was there.

The Bomboras started lighting their guitars and organ on fire back in 96 and by 99 the fire marshall would come to the shows and threaten to shut down the show if we set anything ablaze. I think about 3 farfisas were melted beyond repair and all the guitar headstocks were charred black. Jake the organ player also used to blow fire from his mouth and for dramatic effect I would sometimes light my hand on fire in addition to the bass. Ronsonall and lighter = FIRE!!!

Happiness is being a surf musician that actually surfs. Ride Lord Hunt Surfboards!!!

This is soooo cool. I realize this thread is like a year old, but I just now discovered it!!!! How out of touch am I???
I don't know if anyone will get a chance to read this, but here I go anyway:

Thanks to everyone of you guys for the kind words about us. We try to work hard at what we do in order to show our love of surf music & to spread that love to poeple who may not know or understand the genre. One of the things I enjoy the most is to meet & play with all of the other bands out there (surf & non-surf). Ferenc, I can't tell you how much PDM blew my mind the first time I saw you guys live. Ivan, in my opinion, meeting you was more exciting than meeting Dick Dale the first time. Our love goes out to all of the other surf bands out there, and although I can't gaurantee any gigs, everyone is welcome in our little neck of the woods. Danny, I think we kick that tour idea into high gear & hit the road!!

I can't express how much these comments mean to me. The surf community is the most awesome community in the world and I'm so proud to be a part of it. I don't know what else I can say right now, so maybe I'll go sit down & write a song and dedicate to everyone in this community. (I'll try to make sure it doesn't suck..)

Thanks again,
and I'm sorry for the late, late posting.
Bob (Ijust might start crying) Bitchin'

Hey I'll jump on the bandwagon and take my turn to gush about these guys. Yes they write great songs and put on what is most likely THEE most entertaining show in surf. After seeing them the first couple times I thought "Hot damn these guys are great. _I_ wanna be able to put on a show like that."
And to boot, they're excessively nice. All the guys have been nice enough to let me--just some random fan--butt in and hang out with them at local shows (and get me into bars both sneakily and not-so-sneakily), for which I'm entirely grateful. It just makes the live experience all the more fun.

Great band. They do, in fact, rule the universe. All hail. Worship
