Always an important one to have under your belt!

Surf in Seattle?

I think my dad taught me either "Bull Dog" or that real simple bluesy beginning to "Honky Tonk". I think "Walk Don't Run" followed.

These were also the first songs or parts of songs I learned on guitar.

Walk Don't Run and Chuck Berry riffs were the reasons I first wanted to learn guitar.

My guitar teacher back in the 70's thought I was from outer space.

Atomic Mosquitos
Bug music for bug people is here!
Killers from Space

Walk Don't Run

Duelin' Banjos (the basic parts, anyways...it was the 1st song I learned, period). The next was SMOASP's "Having An Average Weekend" from episodes of Kids in the Hall that I'd taped.

(edit: - I missed the word "surf" in the title - so forget that whole "duelin Banjos" part...-Butch)

"APACHE" Razz

Bob

Will I get stoned to death if the first instrumental I learned was Wipeout?

The Mystery Men?
El Capitan and The Reluctant Sadists
SSS Agent #31

The first song of any kind I learned to play: "Sandstorm" by Johnny & the Hurricanes. Great riff!

Well 2 notes here,
1st it's on Bass not guitar,
2nd I know I play it wrong, but like my version better.

p.s. I would be proud to know how to play wipeout on drums, it may be over played , but to do it right is a skill.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

Hmmm coincidence on the title? I think not? ha ha
I don't know if I've heard that song.
Is it middle eastern/or spaghetti flavored?
Is the Johnny and the Hurricanes best of comp worth picking up?

Jeff(bigtikidude)

It's r&b/early-r&r flavored. It's from '58 or something. Nothing middle eastern about it, except that it's got the shakers which sound like a sandstorm!

I think the best-of is a good investment. Some good stuff, some not so good stuff, much stuff that probably sounded great back then, but that just sounds trite today. You know, lot of r&b type cliches...

Thanks for the Info Ivan, that's what I figured. I see it at Go-Boy records all the time, and always pass on it.
I picked up the Best of the Fireballs cd on ace for the same reason.
Figured a good best of would cover al the essentials, instead of getting all the albums or cds.

The first three songs I ever learned on the guitar were:

Batman Theme by The Ventures
Surf Beat by Dick Dale
Pipeline by the Chantays

On bass, the first tunes I ever learned were:

James Bond Theme
Mission Impossible Theme
Peter Gunn Theme
