Permalink "The L.A. Sessions" with Pete Curry - saying hi!

New Topic
Goto Page: 1 2 Next

First post here! I hope to contribute somehow and to have fun around you guys.

I recorded my latest CD at Pete Curry's studio in L.A. (he played drums) and we came out with this "The L.A Sessions" which you can check out at http://www.myspace.com/joaoerbetta
I'm really happy with the music we did. I wrote all the tunes but "Tico Tico no Fubá" (from Zequinha de Abreu, an old, old Brazilian tune).
Pete is such a nice guy and incredible talented. What a pleasure to be around and play with this guy! The plan is to record more soon.

I did a lo-fi, dark and grainy video when we were mixing "O Caipira" and you can check it out at http://br.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5zVyaiYySQ
There are some cool gear over there.

The CD is available at CD Baby and at iTunes Store. My CD release party will be at the Velvet Lounge (in Washington DC) on October 8th. The cool thing is that I have a sousaphone instead of a bass (Mr. Monty Montgomery) and I'm planning a West Coast mini-tour in January. So, I'm open to discuss gigs with other bands/artists. Drop me a line if you want.

Again, I'm glad to be here!
Cheers

2012-2013: FILTHY POLAROIDS

Joao, nicely done! I will plan to go to your show at the Velvet Lounge on the 8th. (I'll be in Arlington, VA from October 4th until the 25th - and see the Ventures on the 16th and Laika & the Cosmonauts & Los Straitjackets on the 23rd - I think I picked a good three weeks to be there!!! The Atomic Mosquitos are playing on the 4th, too, but I don't know if I'll be able to get to that show.)

BTW, Joao, have you heard Los Twang! Marvels version of "Tico Tico"? See their YouTube live video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laMJPV8019Y

Looking forward to meeting you in person. Good luck with the album!

I know this guy from another forum (I won't mention the name of the forum but cryptographers can decode it, etscGray agesPay :)) and he's a hell of a fine player. Good to see you here Joao!

Gotta love that mad scientist look. Shocked

What a nice picture! I really hope to record a lot more with Pete using all those mics, amps, preamps, comps and, of course, the tape machine...

Calacas,
Well, I'm planning to go to California in January. I'm moving to NYC in December and I have no idea what will be happen from that. I'm trying hard to play my stuff everywhere but I'm still doing the booking by myself. I hope to have a full schedulle soon!

GPD people! cool! Well, I think I can find a lot of the same people at Jazzmaster, Jaguar, Reverb, Magnatone, 0.13 strings, Bass VI, Baritone, Tremolos, Vibratos, Bigsby and whatever related foruns all over the web world!

Hey Ivan! Thanks for the link. I didn't know that version. There's a website with more than 60 versions of "Tico-Tico" ( http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2005/11/61_versions_of_.html ). Insane...
Yeah, I'll wait for you at the Velvet Lounge. Cool!

Thanks guys for the welcome!

Is it just me or does that picture remind you of Les Paul?

Hey Joao...nice to see you here. I still have some MP3s you sent me back from the old GDP days on my iPod.

Things have progressed nicely, it seems.

Anybody going to this show at the Velvet Lounge tonight?

Ivan: Did you go? I don't think so, right? Well, I had fun. The sound was really good. I hope to have more dates soon.

LHR: Yeah, man... I think things are getting better! Thanks for checking!

Noventón: Hola chico! I'll stick around for a while. Thanks for the boas vindas.

Hey Syncro, what a great idea. To have Pete and Les Paul just talking about stuff, having a coffee (btw, Pete has those really cool Italian coffees that you can have during studio breaks... Nice stuff!). That could be a PBS special: "A coffee hour with Pete Curry".

If they put it on TV you know I'd be watching.

Hi Joao:

I fully planned on going even a couple of hours before the show, but when the time came to go, I was simply too tired (in fact, all of Tuesday was very rough for me, I could barely keep my eyes open all day). I felt bad, because i like the stuff I've heard by you a LOT, and very much wanted to see you. But I'm in the DC area to work, and I had to be up early the next morning, so.... Very sorry, any chance you're playing again in the next two weeks?

Good luck with the album, from what I heard it sounds really fantastic! you're a hell of a guitar player!

Hey Ivan! The gig was really cool! I'm not playing the same set this week. I'm playing with Yamomanem ( New Orleans Jazz) on October 24th at Sala Thai (U Street). On October 30rd I'm playing with my trio at Haydee's in Mount Pleasant. Let me know if you're still around.

Btw, here's another video:

See you tonight!
