Traquilizer (High Tide) by The Lively Ones. At that point the shop where I wuz taking guitar lessons went into recivership and I got screwed out of amonths worth of lessons. From then on I've learned every song I know by ear.

Chad Cote
6 string surfer.

Pipeline ... still, the greatest surf song. Ever.

The first song I learned "period" was "Wipe Out" on an acoustic Kent, which can roughly be described as a guitar.

I started with various riffs and bits and pieces from all over, but my first song through and through was actually Transylvanian Orbit (now Ricochet), also on an acoustic. (I don't even have an electric guitar Mad , which makes the high notes really hard to play.)

Walk Don't Run

Pipeline.
But when I was just starting out on guitar I tried to play along to the Beach Boys’ version of Miserlou and soon passed.

KK

The Exotic Guitar of Kahuna Kawentzmann

You can get the boy out of the Keynes era, but you can’t get the Keynes era out of the boy.

I think the first instro song was "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed".

Very little surf content in that.

What day is Surf Rock's birthday? Looks like Surf Rock and I was born the same year. Maybe we are both Libras?

AS many MOAM songs as i could. I wouldnt have gotten very far if it wasnt for Ansigod. does that dude post on here?

Probably "Having an Average Weekend" by the Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet. Maybe not technically surf, but close enough.

pipeline and then wipe out.. bring more stones Razz

Pipeline, then Penetration. I still get 'em confused.

<i>"In the beginning there was Nothing. Then it Exploded"</i>

pipeline. then i looked up as many MOAM tabs i could off ansigods site. this was back when the internet was still text based.

"Wipe Out" by the Surfaris, of course. Very Happy

"Lonely Sea" and "Changing Tides" by The Ventures on my Danelectro! I was amazed i could learn them cause i play upside down......left handed body strung righty. I still play "Lonely Sea" live with The TakeOffs. Very Happy

ok.... I'm coming in late on this...... so sue me. Razz

Probably in just about THIS order... I learned (and performed publicly)

TALL COOL ONE - The Wailers
ROAD RUNNER - The Wailers
POINT PANIC - Surfaris
LET'S GO TRIPPIN' - Beach Boys, Surfaris
WAIKIKI RUN - Surfaris
WIPE OUT - Surfaris
MISERLOU - Beach Boys, Astronauts, Surfaris
PIPELINE - Chantays
STOKED - Beach Boys
MOON DAWG - The Gamblers
PENETRATION - Pyramids

Let me say that STOKED is a nifty little song. We learned it way before all the prejudice against the BB's began. I mean back when they were a really boss blasting surf group. A time very few people remember, or will admit to. Cool Axe me about it sometime. Cool

thanks for your patience. Louie7

ok...we're awl in agreement...Stoked is good.

Monsoon is a really good tune....but I never sat down with it.
Play Pipeline 33,565 times, though...... got it down pretty good now. yep.

One of the first things I learned to do (before chords, even) was double-picking. We had a complete maniac for a drummer and I had a very loud amp (Fender narrow-panel PRO) so.....Miserlou was sort of a show stopper for us. That one and Let's Go Trippin'...mostly because we just put tons of raw teenaged energy and plenty of raw Fender power into them.

The crowds seemed to really like those tunes. Prabably because they were fast and different. I remember big college guys getting in my face (I was only 15)...wanting to hear those songs again, and AGAIN....(later they'd do the same thing with Louie Go Home, Oo poo pah doo, and Big Boy Pete...typical frat rock behavior)

I guess they wanted to dance nutty with their plaid-skirted white-bloused bee-hive-haired college girl-friends. In a way, I don't blame them...even if they were obnoxious jocks. hehe
