Permalink Mosrite Ventures Model - Value?

New Topic

I have the chance to buy a '66 Mosrite Ventures Mark V Model - it is in good condition, but needs a body refinish (somebody did a crappy refin on the body sometime ago).

Zero fret model neck, all original parts - I am told this is not the coveted Ventures Model, but still ... Dealer wants $600 as is, I figure it will go for more once I repaint the body.

Anybody want to give me an informed opinion on this value?

Gavin

I've always thought there is something a little off with the body of the Mark V Mosrites. I couldn't find any pricing, but $600 seems pretty good.

I'd buy it for $600.00... Go for it.

$600 is a great price for a Mark V model Mosrite. even if it needs refinishing. They have different style pickups than the Ventures models, but I think that both style pickups sound fantastic. Also, a lot of people think that the Mark V model is a short-scale, but that's not the case. It's the same neck as on the Ventures model; however, the neck is set farther into the body. Consequently, the upper frets are harder to reach on the Mark V model.

I have a re-issue (Filmore) Mosrite, but I'd love to have an original!

Try and haggle it down if you can, but that does sound reasonable.

I also like to think that all early 60's fender equipment is happy to be playing surf music again. After all, its the music it was meant to play.

I wouldn't pass it up, You'll love it! $600 is a good deal IMO.

The prices on Mark V's are going to very from finish and year, this past summer I paid $1,895 for mine with it's original case such a sweet guitar and my favorite RIGHT NOW FULLTIME PLAYER fuller sounding then a Jazzmaster & Jaguar IMO with more balls and punch plus your talking to a guy who has played nothing but Jaguars & Jazzmasters for years, I have never ever seen one go for $600 I have only seen them sell for well over $1,000 to $2,000 and worth every penny and each year they keep going up in price and getting harder to find.

Here's mine
1967 Mark V
The checking and cracking are so cool I would never refinish it. It's perfect just the way it is!! It's what a vintage piece is all about.

It was a Crybaby and I still cry every time I think about it. What can I say, it was a very different time from right now and Surf was below the radar screen for most of us. In 1975, if you had told me that 30 + years later I'd be playing Gretsches and have a Fender Jaguar baritone I would have laughed at the idea. Heck, back then a lot of people wanted solid state amps. Reverb was kept low if used at all and the fuzz box companies were making money faster than they could spend it on dope. Smile
