Permalink Eliminators - Photos - Bella Terra show in HB

The Eliminators rocked the new Bella Terra Mall in Huntington Beach tonight. They are one of the more polished bands on the surf scene with a great sound. They have some of the best original material of the surf bands currently playing. I highly recommend their 2 CD'd which are available at www.TheEliminators.com. They also do many killer covers. Those that have not seen them should try to do so. They play mainly in Orange County Ca. The Eliminators have been in several Episodes of Beverly Hills 90210 and in numerous Bud Light commercials.

Ambushed by the smoking tiki, no sound....

Groovy!

Was kinda cool to see them on a big stage like that.
but...... they did alot of cover( playing to the audience) instead of more originals. and the sound was pretty boomy, bass heavy for awhile, but after many suggestions to turn down the bass, the sound guy finally did.
better than sittin home watchin tv, but after seeing the Maderia and the Kilaueas The Elminators come off as a coprate fueled party surf band. aka.... boring.

p.s. I bet some will like the suits, but I thoght they looked like the Beatles, or worse, Flight Captains for the major airlines.
The yused to wear snazzy, sharkskin suits and stuf, I thought those were cool.

The only Eliminators recordings I have are off the of KFJC Totally Tubular 2nd disc (where they played Woodies on the Wharf) and a couple radio tapes, but I really like their sound. I guess they deliberately do the trad thing, covers included, but they do it really well. From the little I've heard, I think they're the best at pleasurably incorporating sax into the mix. Their "Woodies. . ." performance of Punta Baja is one of my favorite songs.

Don't get me wrong they have the ability to really rip it up and I love their originals a ton, and their Trad to a T sound.
but I just get sad when they fall into the lets play Walk Don't Run, Pipeline, Surf Rider. songs. They did do some originals, and some killer covers last night. Like Dune Buggy by dick dale, and Comanche by the Revels( I think). Its just the hum drum songs that stick in my head. sorry to be such a wet dish rag sometimes. Wink

p.s. supposedly they are working on a new cd. would be nice to hear some early glimpses. but I guess a big professional show like this is not the place to try out new material.

Not everyone is familar with their original material. Naturally they are going to have to play some covers to keep it entertaining as it was not what I'd call a surf crowd there. They put on a good show & they do care about entertaining the crowd. Sometimes you have to play keeping your audience in mind.

I had a few beers with Frank (bass) & Doug (drums) after the show, taking up from where we were kicked out of the bar after the Queen Mary show. They had issues with the sound too. The sound guy would not listen to them. I dont think any sound issues are their fault.

Oh I definelty Knew that the PA sound problems weren't their fault.

But I do wish Preston would turn the reverb up on the rhythm guitar.
I mean he has a tank there, and he sounds dryier than if he was using a twin with built in reverb sad in my book.
Ok enuff baggin I'll get off my soap box now.

I agree. Way too dry on the reverb. Is there such a thing as too much? I havn't heard it yet...

Ha, all is forgiven BTD. No animosity intended. I wasn't there, but I'm sure after hearing Walk Don't Run, Surf Rider, and Pipeline in the same set I might have felt the same way. Those are three songs (but not the only three) that are way overdone.
