Now, I know that the purists here will probably scoff at the mere mention of the Fender Frontman 212 amp, and tell me I should take it to the pawn shop..... but I thought I should post this tip for those who cant afford $2000 amp/tank combos.
As you all know, the Frontman 212R comes from the factory with an unbelivably weak "Type 1" spring reverb tank. In fact, its useless.
I emailed the company that makes all of the spring reverb tanks for Fender.. Accutronics (accutronicsreverb.com). I simply told them I had a Frontman 212R, and they built a sweet, long-spring, "Type 4" reverb tank for my amp.
Here's the best part..... $32.00+ s/h.
And, I could not be more pleased with the sound of this tank. It's a huge, huge upgrade.

I had a similar experience with my Blues Junior - Mojo Musical sells a replacement tank by Ruby Tubes that completely opened up the reverb on my BJR, and it was a $30 swap that took me about 5 minutes!
Is it a tank? No. Is it comparable to the tube-driven 'verb in the DRRI/TRRI/etc.? No, but it's a lot closer than the stock tank was by a long shot!
In addition to dropping the bottom out, it also seemed to warm up the reverb a bit, too. Well worth every dollar.

Thanks!
Sometime you might try to find this tank:
4EB3C1B
http://www.tubeampdoctor.com/Z-4EB3C1B-Accutronics-Hallspirale-pid-277.htm
It should be compatible with your amp, but with a longer decay time (2.75-4 seconds instead of 1.75 -3 seconds). Might be too big to fit inside though, I don't know.

What are the code numbers for the tanks?
Just go to the Accutronics website. It explains the part/code numbers in detail. If you arent sure what part# to order, just email them and theyll tell you what # to order.

Yup, I'm aware. I just asked for code to see if there was a tank available for him with a longer reverb time and the correct input/output impedance.
Thanks!

HaHa!!!!
Sorry to hear of your misfortunes guys.
I"ve only had my FM212 for a short time, BUT, It has been a workhorse for me.
Years back, I played through a Twin Reverb.... still wish I had never got rid of that one. But, I can say, that all in all, the FM212 is a stout replacement. She gets a workout every weekend, and comes through with great tone... night after night.

I agree, the Frontman 212R produces very twin-like tones, even at home practice and recording volume.
Can you tell us what Accutronics Part Number was used for your replacement reverb tank?
I called Accutronics (owned by Belton at this time) and they will no longer provide a custom build of the tank, so now I need the part number to search for a retailer.

I just picked up my frontman today and the new reverb tank is on its way. I would be a purist if I could afford it, but right now the frontman is the way to go for me.

You could do much worse than a Frontman 212R as far as surf amps are concerned. Just because it's solid state doesn't mean it can't sound good.

I've had tube and solid state amps and, as a home player, I don't see myself ever needing or wanting anything other than my Quilter MicroPro. In fact, my Fender Reverb is the only thing tube I have now.

I bought a 212r so i could leave the sound city and others at home. it's been solid and i HATE modeling amps..which i know.. But they did a really good job of emulating that true Fender sound. it's been totally reliable.
nice tip with the tank!

One further adjustment to the amp - I just put an SG101 sticker on it, and now it sounds better. Spread the love
