Since no one else answered this post, I'll throw out an opinion. I've had an Alesis SR-16 for several years. It is far from being the most sophisticated unit out there, but it is very simple to use and is MIDI compatible. Patterns 33 and 34 ("Country Rock", for chrissakes!) are good basic surf patterns. I've used it as a stand alone drummer on a couple of HulaHound recordings, and we actually used it on stage through an Ampeg bass amp since we were a power surf duo - 2 guitars. It is also a great guitar practice tool...the ultimate metronome. —Jack Booth The Mariners (1964-68, 1996-2005) |

I use an SR-16 for my home demos. You can hear it on my 2 demos posted on the SG101 download page, Maelstrom and Chronosurf. It does a fine job, and is pretty flexible. Programming is a must to get good surf beats, so roll up your sleeves, get a cup of joe, and study that manual - it's worth the effort. —Danny Snyder Playing keys and guitar with Combo Tezeta Formerly a guitarist in The TomorrowMen and Meshugga Beach Party Latest surf project - Now That's What I Call SURF |

I use the Boss Dr Rhythm DR5...(the way old one!)...sounds pretty cool...it's been my main drummer since 1991 or so! |
