Hey Abraham, you are a real cool cat! How sweet is that Esquire that Burlison is playing? His playing is raw and a little reckless---the way I like my rockabilly. I read where he said he accidentally discovered his fuzz sound (The Train Kept a Rollin') by dropping his amp and knocking a tube loose. So after that when he wanted that sound, he'd loosen that tube. |

Has any one here ever heard the Rocking Bones box set? Its very cool and I recommend it. My personal favorite is "Love Me" by The Phantom. http://www.amazon.com/Rockin-Bones-1950s-Punk-Rockabilly/dp/B000FOQ0JG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1220237782&sr=1-1 — |

Wow, "interesting" is an understatement! That is one impressive (and persuasive) bit of investigation and analysis. As someone who enjoys listening to 50's/60s country music, I know that when I'm listening to the likes of Marty Robbins or Patsy Cline, I am often hearing the chameleon like skills of Grady Martin---certainly "El Paso" perhaps his best known---but so many others. He deserves all the credit due him. I doubt the facts re: JBT will ever catch up to the public perception, though. I hope so, but it sure puts a dent in Burlison's legacy. Speaking of Grady Martin and "fuzz", there is a Marty Robbins track I have called "Don't Worry (About Me) that still has some of the nastiest fuzz I've heard. It was recorded and played by Grady around 1960! edit: I found it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pd4rxVwdIM&feature=related (Oh yeah, Abraham, my name is Scott. It would be a good idea to put that in my signature too.) Last edited: Aug 31, 2008 22:44:25 |
