Nice Rogers kit Shawn!
I had a 64 Rogers red sparkle kit with badger lugs(is that what they call them?) and a keystone badge Ludwig red sparkle snare that I sold to Pete Curry years ago. last I knew it was the studio kit for all of the Los Straightjackets recordings (and the Neptunas stuff I ghost drummed on, shh. don't tell anyone) and stuff that Deke has done there. I think Earl Palmer even played that kit and signed the snare head after a session with Pete.
By 64, Rogers switched to "beavertail" lugs. Prior to that, they were "bread & butter" lugs, which were made of spun brass. They looked cool but most of them either cracked or totally imploded under the pressure.

Hey, Jerry was no slouch, he could play. I would never do a drum battle, I couldn't even play the part of Gary Lewis.
You really wouldn't do a Drum battle? I think drum battles are great. I like the idea of that rather than a guitar battle, the thought of that one is kinda lame to me. But drum battles are cool. And it seems like something that would be fun to take part in. ![Cool Cool](/media/smiley/images/icon_cool.gif)

I would be happy to play nearly as good as you. But then, I'm an underachiever. (Just kidding) Your solid time and great feel---knowing what to play and when--is what I am shooting for.
.
Thanks websurfer, I wasn't fishing for compliments, I've just never been a drum solo guy. I need a song to play with.

I guess it depends on who you admire as a drummer. Anyone whose anyone trys to be a little like their hero. I guess I like drum solos cuz my favorite drummer JoeMorello does 'em. But i like all that shit you do in Casbah and thers a bunch of other SP tunes that i notice some of the things you do. You shure ass hell can hold a long drum role. I know your not looking for a compliment, but im not trying to do that. Im just telling you what I think.

Ah, and Casbah has the bass line going with it, so it's not really a solo. I just can't imagine doing anything by myself on the drums for more than about 30 seconds or so.
Thanks for your thoughts!
And nice kit!

Yeah man, "ta Bonita la Bateria verdad?"
My lil'bro loves drum solo's and he's a drummer.
But he wouldn't wanna do a drum solo in public
cuz he doesn't want all the attention. But I guess
your all about playing the Tune and thats cool too.
Do you think that red sparkle is different from
the ludwig? Looks a lil different but nice. ![Smile Smile](/media/smiley/images/icon_smile.gif)

Rogers and Gretsch used glass glitter wraps that were made by Delmar plastics. Ludwig, Slingerland, and most others used sparkles. The glass glitter wraps were made using crushed glass, so the "sparkles" are larger and vary in size. The sparkles used by Ludwig are like the glitter in the little bottles used for arts & crafts. They're small and are all uniform in shape & size. Personally , I like the glass glitters much better. It stands out much more, especially under lights,

Tony doesn't like drum solos either. Let's face it, in surf music at least, long solos are just lame. My allegiance is to the song. ![RTFM RTFM](/media/smiley/images/icon_rtfm.gif)

Verdad, verdad.
I think the Ludwig has more of metallic sparkle-more glittery. The Gretsch is more understated, as they have always been.

Yeah your right Danny. I guess in Jazz music it just seems more appropriate. Well to me it does.

Simon vato. All those sparkles and the glittery shit are all nice and pretty but my favorite of all the wraps has to be WMP ![Drool Drool](/media/smiley/images/icon_drool.gif)

Yeah I agreed with Ted, I can only play for about 20 seconds by myself. I don't feel like I'm creative enough of a drummer to make an interesting 'solo.' It'd turn into a "look how fast Tony can play" solo. Does anyone really want to listen to that? I sure don't. ![Laughing Laughing](/media/smiley/images/icon_lol.gif)

Fast Drum solos are cool and all, but yeah your right eventually it will get dull. That Dusty Watson guy is good and all but to me the point of his solos are just "Play Fast" and thats it. Its kinda like someone gives him a canvas and tells him to paint something. And all he does is splash some paint on ther instead of painting a picture. And im not trying to bash on the guy, he's the shit. ![Cool Cool](/media/smiley/images/icon_cool.gif)
