I haven't had much luck finding the Guitar Tab for this...Any Thoughts?

Hey helmut,

If it helps, the chords in the first verse are D, F#, G, A, Bm, A#. That's not exactly in order but it should give you a jumping off point. I actually never sat down and figured out the whole song (because I am worthless and lazy) but I do know the entire rhythm part. When I have a few more minutes I can write out all the chords with the key changes if you like.

I've also been trying to work this song out.

I think The Ventures play it in D.

I also do not read tab, but would be interested in knowing the chords for the rhythm part of the song if anyone can chart them out.

According to Wikipedia,

"Slaughter on Tenth Avenue is a ballet with music by Richard Rodgers and choreography by George Balanchine. It occurs near the end of Rodgers and Hart's 1936 Broadway musical comedy On Your Toes."

"One of The Ventures' greatest hits was their instrumental version of "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue", which was based on the score of the ballet. It was released in 1964."

"The British instrumental pop group The Shadows released their version in November 1969."

I don't know if this is true or not. The sound sample of the ballet didn't sound like The Ventures' version. But if it is true, there is sheet music for piano but with guitar chords at Sheet Music Plus, here:

Hey Richard...you must have been typing your response at the same time I was typing mine...if you could write out the chords and key changes, I would most definitely appreciate it and I'm sure it will help the original poster as well!

Thanks.

Rob,
See the book of transcriptions "Classic Rock Instrumentals" by Fred Sokolow. Just google it and you'll find it for sale for under $20. Well worth the money, it has a great transcription of "Slaughter" in standard notation and also in tab. Lots of other great instrumentals in there too, excellent work IMO. Casey

Smile The song is in "D" but then it eventually switches to the key of "E-flat". I sometimes have trouble in certain parts of the song also.

Smile I only have on version of this song and its from the Japan 65' album. And Im pretty shure its on "D". But I was just wondering what studio album this sosng is in. I want to buy some more ventures CDs. One of which I want is "From the Vaults 4" it's pretty cool Cool .

The Deadbeats

I e-mailed Rob a set of mp3 files of me playing my verson slowly, and breaking it into 8 parts. It should be easy to figure it out from these files, and I'll explain anything you can't figure out. Anyone that wants them, sent me a private message with your e-mail address.

Jeff, thanks. I got your email, and appreciate the effort. I'll see what I can learn from your mp3s.

It's in D but falls back to C and then up to C#, is what I meant.

Here's the chord chart for our arrangement, which pretty much follows the recorded version. A few of the chords might be simplified substitutions.
