'Cos a lot of the (non-surf) gigs we do seem to involve carrying our gear upstairs or a long way through hotels - and because I'm getting old - I put this setup together in the hope of getting a big sound in a very portable way. I've been enjoying the AC15 I bought for the studio, so I thought I'd go for a louder version of that.
The head is a standard Custom Classic AC30 and the cabinet is an old Peavey one I had that I was extremely fortunate with the size of. As you can see it looks just the right width. I fitted an Alnico gold speaker in the cab as you can also see in the pics. It's Celestion's 50w version of the classic blueback - and having compared them directly they do sound much the same.
I was going to redo the grill in Vox speaker cloth until I found out how much it was: it's about a 140$ for a piece to do that .. and I'm not paying that, even though it would look much cooler. If anyone knows of a cheaper source for that then please let me know....
Anyhow, I'll be trying this setup out for the first time tonight and I'll tell you how I got on.
