You don't have to hide behind a reverb tank all the time to play surf.
sure ya don't, but it's much MUCH better if ya do.
besides, last time i checked, Zak uses fuzz as well. that is most certainly coming out from behind the reverb tank.

Let's see one of your videos.
I'd be glad to critique it.

sorry, the Treblemakers vids win hands down over these guys.
I think you know the point I'm tryin' to make here.
It just ain't cool to slam another band who's just tryin' to share their music and get some feedback.
There's a fine line between being a critc and talking trash. I think some of you crossed that line.
You ain't good enough to have an ego.............

Wow. Cool. I see you've done your homework.
The problem is. I wasn't just referring to you.
Then again. Who gives a shit.

Regarding the hiding behind a reverb tank comment.
Sure, you don't have to, but the music has to be great. Man or Astro-Man? used not tank and they were amazing.

I watched the first two videos and looked at the myspace page:
(a) it ain't purist surf and they _already know it _by the title of this thread
(b) as already stated, just a tad more reverb would be nice
(c) audience seemed to enjoy them - unless their clapping was edited into the videos afterwards?
(d) green shirts just OK on stage but not for business meetings nor SG101 conventions
(e) Dancing shark; cool (reason: I once played 'wipeout' with a surfboard carrying gorilla many moons ago - so I have to like it)
(f) better than a brass band at a theme park
That is all.

You can't hide. If your playing/music is no good (not referring to Jake), no tank will help and it might even do more damage. The music should be great with or without. I've heard some pretty crappy stuff drenched in reverb.

OK, this is my personal opinion on the matter.
these guys just do not sound surf at all to me. they just sound like a regular bar band who happens to cover a few surf songs just to get the crowd dancing. this isnt ripping on the band, but just my personal opinion on what they sound like.
so that is why the Treblemakers win hands down.
this ain't a contest, but billyblastoff made a comment to basically put up or shut up to Zak, and i was defending him.

Yes,
but its a pretty well known assumption that if you use alot of reverb and or distortion that it hides alot of sloppiness.

Jimmy Page is proof of that.

Soooooooooooooooo,
Did I mention I love you guys?
Are you trying to say I'm hiding behind distortion?
'Cause I ain't got none, I'm playing in to a '54 Fender Deluxe and a Dr Z Z-28 and both of them are clean as a bell, maybe a little gank when I have the Strat on 10. I'm using a Framptone three banger and a Keeley modded Line 6 DL4 that Robert modded for me and I use for verb and (admittedly overused) echo.
It's the same rig I recorded our stuff on the myspace page with.
Or are you just saying I'm sloppy?
Love, Jimmy

Jimmy, the distortion comment had nothing to do with you or the video, that's why they call this a thread? Actually, I think it was suggested that you didn't hide behind reverb. I still say Page is sloppy but who can tell through all the dirt. Now Ritchie Blackmore....there goes the thread again.

Page is sloppy hiding behind distortion. The live DVD they put out several years back was an abomination.
Amazing in the studio though.

I gotta say, I am really admiring this guy a lot in light of these really harsh posts. His attitude is stellar. Even though it is not like the surf I play or listen to, at least it is not "beach music", Parrothead rock, or even really all that soft. Just a surfy non-trad rock. Nothing wrong with that. He is doing his own thing, obviously is having fun, and, I'll be damned, it looks like he is paying the bills! Hats off.
