Permalink Forgive me wife for I have Jazzmastered...

Oh man... I did it... I pulled the trigger on a "buy it now" AV RI 62 jazzmaster on EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKBay... Surnburst... Been looking casually for awhile, lowball bidding here and there on some CIJs, but along comes this USA at a good price, already pro set up, looks in the pictures like there's a buzz stoper, or whatever that extra bigsby like tension bar is called already installed... Oh well, I guess I'm on this site to stay. Became a contributing member and everything... I guess in a week or so I'll be turning up the amp and ripping into "surf beat" for the first time on a Jazzmaster Shocked Now to sell that P90 hamer special I haven't bonded with...

Got pictures of the Jazzmaster? You know you want us to see them.

I suggest trying the AV without the buzz stop(bigsby thing).

the AV RI's do not need a buzzstop. Please post the ebay link, so we can check it out.

Well, I have the ebay pics, but I'll have better ones when it arrives. As to the tension bar, we'll see. I'd rathter it weren't there, but depending on the neck pocket, if it needs work, I'd rather have it than shim the neck... Hopefully it won't need either! But if it needs it, I won't need to buy it! image

Question: Why would you rather have a buzzstop than shim the neck? Almost all Jags and Jazzmasters have shims. Doesn't really affect the tone as much as a buzzstop would. And you will still need a shim even if you have the buzzstop.

A good setup with 12-13 gauge strings elminated the need for a buzzstop. At least in my expierence.

Well, bear in mind that I am Jazzmaster ignorant. COMPLETELY! I have however significant guitar experience. I would think that an unshimmed neck and a buzzstop would require much less action tweeking than a shimmed neck, and I don't do "truss rod at the base" adjustments. Taking off a neck intimidates me. One reason I love my G&Ls. Love that bullet!

As to tone. I quote Johnny Ramone: You play 'em loud enough, they all start sounding the same Rock

I am without ego when it comes to gear knowledge. Anyone who knows more than I do is considered a resource, not a competitor! Keep the info/opinions coming! Worship

I'm a proponent of Buzzstops on whatever guitar can use them. I have one both on my Jap Jag as well as my AVRI Jazzmaster, each of which I string with 12 flats. I don't know what it is, precisely, but I just always have strings skipping out on me.

Of course, most anyone who has seen me play with the Lava Rats can attest to the fact that I play really friggin hard. I even wound up putting a buzzstop on my custom Bronco, which has both a Bigsby and a Mustang Bridge.

Of course, I never have any problems like that with my Mosrite... Wink

Well it arrived unscathed at 5:42 p.m. That's inspite of the fact that there was NO packaging inside the case, and NO packaging between the case and the box! This thing rattled all the way from Minnesota to Washington state... First impression" "Wow... This thing is light..." Seriously, this thing is light. Tone is awesome. Set up is very good with 11s. I may leave it as is until I find I have to raise it up. I like things between 5 and 6/64ths on most guitars and as high as 7 on my dedicated blues strat shaped object (G&L S500). This is my first Fender in a LONG time... I gave up on strats. Is it possible the AV strats are this good?

Oh yeah, the buzzstop. I like the break it provides over the bridge! I'll play some others without it and see how I feel, but right now, I don't see a reason to take it off...

All told this one is a keeper...

"Is it possible the AV strats are this good? "

Yes it is. All the AV RI are awesome.

I have to readjust the initial review. I said setup was very good. Setup was AWESOME. I measured string height at the 12th and it was between 6 and 7/64ths. I would have guessed around 5 or less by feel. I'm a pretty happy camper!

It has me thinking those irrational thoughts... You know the ones... "I should get another... NOW... I need a white one too!" Twisted Evil Thank god for the "four guitars in the house" rule Embarassed

You had me at light Mr. Green

My ash Strat weighs in at just under 30 lbs Duh
