I'd love to hear your version of this song. Do you base your arrangement on Dave Edmunds or Rimsky-Korsakoff?

Not familiar with the Dave Edmunds arrangement, but ours is fairly traditional with a pumped up pipeline-type rhythm.
We did a recording of it a while back for Alan Jenkins comp, but we didn't quite get it done in time to make the cut. It's definatly part of our regular set now though.
Holy shit!!! The first time I heard Dave Edmunds'
version, it totally knocked me on my ass!!! I had never
been a big Dave Edmunds fan, but if he never had
recorded another song, he would belong in the Hall
of Fame for his incendiary version of "Sabre Dance".
How he played at that speed for that long, I will never
know. If you guys and gals can get your hands on a
copy, you owe it to yourselves to hear this track.

How 'bout some Pink Floyd songs as surf guitar instrumentals? Off hand, I'm thinking of earlier ones...
"Astronomy Domine" - The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn
"Let There Be More Light" - A Saucerful Of Secrets
"A Saucerful Of Secrets" - title track
...but it'd be interesting to see what could be done with some of their later concept stuff, like "Brain Damage/Eclipse" from The Dark Side Of The Moon, although it may be a bit of a challenge to surf guitarize some of their concepts like Animals or The Wall. I don't know...so far, I think I'll stick to their earlier stuff. Perhaps a surf guitar instrumental version of Syd Barrett's "Dark Globe" would be a challenge worth undertaking...especially with some of the darker tones to be had from a Jazzmaster, whenever I get one.
At least I already know what several Pink Floyd songs sound like as instrumentals, having an orchestral tribute CD and a bluegrass tribute CD, so it's not like I'd be committing sacrelige or blasphemy against "the Pink Floyd establishment"...only if I don't first get permission.
While I'm thinking along the lines of surfadelic, in my mind Status Quo's "Pictures Of Matchstick Men" would be fair game, as would be The Chambers Brothers' "Time Has Come Today," although in my mind I'd change one lyric to "...and my soul has been surfadelicized..."

That's one of the main reasons I had to get a Strat (particularly the one with the extra switchy gizmo). I love playing surf, but ultimately, I'm a musical schitzo.
Oh yeah, the topic... 
We do a surficized instro version of an Iron Maiden tune (we call it "Number of the Beach"), a Man or Astromannish reworking of the Star Wars "Imperial March" (retitled "The Cavefish Strike Back"), and at the moment I'm working on an ode to Van Halen's "Eruption," that I call "Submersion." It's a work in progress. No finger-tapping, though.

Greetings folks, this is my first post on this forum, I´ve spent a few hours reading it today and I absolutely love it.
On the subject of "instrumentizing" vocals: japanese anime / live action tunes sometimes make great instros! We (Cochabambas) used to play the "Johnny Sokko and his flying robot" theme as an instro, and I am currently working on a version for "makka na scarf", which was the "love theme" for the anime "Space Cruiser Yamato" (Star Blazers in the US). That´s what you get for listening to too much Takeshi Terauchi I guess

As a member of Meshugga Beach Party, I can proudly say we boast the longest list of non-surf tunes - all of them save Havanagila. I'd list them here except everyone's tongues may go into spasms trying to pronounce the names.

I´ve uploaded an mp3 we recorded during a rehearsal last year, should be on this very fine site soon. Apologies for the quality of both the recording and our playing.
We don´t play Ultraman, but the japanese theme song for "Magma Taishi" ("The Space Giants" in the US, "Space Avenger" in Brazil) would sound great as a Shadows / Euro style instro.

This past Sunday at the HB Surfing Museum The Torquays did a great fully surfed up version of "Classical Gas." I'd like to hear it again.

How 'bout a surf guitar arrangement of "Rockford Files Theme?" Would be interesting to hear which would be the better way to go, for something like that...Jazzmaster or Stratocaster replacing the organ lead. Then again, a pedal or lap steel might be an interesting replacement for the organ, for this particular song...put a Jazzmaster or Stratocaster behind it, so one could still call it a "surf guitar arrangement," though.

One year at the Southern California Fair In Lake Perris our entire hour and a half setlist consisted of TV and Movie Themes just for giggles. It went over real well. We've learned that not everyone in the audience is familiar with Surf Music but they ALL watch TV.

We do a Henry Mancini show full of his tunes, as well as an Xmas show in Dec. So those are mostly non-surf tunes.
In our regular sets we'll do "Star Wars Theme" & "Spiderman".

I know I'm hijacking the thread, but I've always been curious if anyone out there has ever noticed how cool the incidental music to the original spiderman cartoon was? I really liked it, so much that I remember the melodies to this day.
