Acid freaked-out Kayama starting out on guitar and ending up behind the organ!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pzbkhu-798

Cool club scene with Kayama dancing to a great sounding black (!) eleki group.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O10VWWLwDV8

Posted before but well worth seeing more than once (Black Sand Beach - live 1966).

Yeah, there's a lot of strange things going on. The funniest I think being the band's hysterical bad trip reaction when the guitar sound continuing coming out of the amp although no one is playing anymore. The audience even starts to panicking at that point Laughing

Smile That song "Black Sand Beach" is cool. What album could I find it in?

It's on his first album as well as on the all instro comp:

(1) Great acid tune- my audiences do that -while- I am playing ;)
(2) Something not right about this band - can't quite put my finger on it? - and did I miss the middle 8 or was that song looping in on itself?
(3) Kayama Yuzo has got a great feel on this, he even smiles at the audience while he plays....what more could you want?

Thanks Klas

A very cool and moody vocal from the same 1966 movie as the "Black Sand Beach" clip above. This is live on stage as well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_65sm68RyQ

1988 clip where he plays what I assume is his original Mosrite that was given to him by the Ventures in the mid 60's.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCKrCV0QsBw

Some kind of TV commercial where the old Kayama of today gets to meet himself as a young man in the 60's!

Ha! That's great.

Very classy performer. Parts of the melody of the first clip remind me of the Beatles "And I Love Her". Wonder if that was intentional?

Just thinking that we never really had a counterpart artist here in the U.S. similar to Kayama--someone who sang and played instrumentals equally well in that genre. Love how the music took root like that in Japan. They seem to love it just as much in that clip from '88 as ever.

It's also on the SG101 Podcast #5. Can't isolate it, but you can listen to it over and over and over and over.....etc. (like I do)

The movie trailer for Eleki No Wakadaisho:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PT2PuPZzByk

Some of the band performing scenes aren't in the actual movie though.

As a bonus for any Yuzo fans, check out these two trailers from a 1968 Kayama movie called Bullet Holes (?). I bet the full movie is great judging by the videos. Also I'm pretty sure it was never part of his lighter Wakadaisho series of films, haha.

And notice that awesome white Toyota 2000 GT Yuzo's driving!

Klas, thanks for posting these clips! Big Yuzo fan here of course. Garrett introduced me to this stuff originally. We love to do at least one or two Yuzo songs in our sets. Fun stuff to play.

I've never seen that "psych" clip before. Amazing fuzz tone on that! Dig those Teisco Spectrum guitars!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pzbkhu-798 Do you or anyone know that name of that song?

Yuhi wa Akaku is an awesome song too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_65sm68RyQ The Ventures instro version done as "Blue Sunset" really blows me away.

Yeah, the Japanese sure are hard to beat when it comes to fuzz! I ran the YouTube title through a translator and out came "Psychedelic Insutourumentaru". No idea how accurate that is though.

I wasn't familiar with the Ventures' version and it appears to have been only released in Japan. Definitely the same song though. Here it is on YouTube:

Yes, I discovered The Ventures Blue Sunset on a 2CD Japanese Import called "TWIN BEST NOW". It has some other tracks that were only released in Japan on it as well. A must buy for Ventures fans!

Here's a 1999 clip of East and West guitar giants Yuzo and Nokie jamming together and showing off their licks. Nokie throwing in his country picking of course and Yuzo switching to a fuzz tone in the middle of the tune...
