What are some of the great mysteries in surf music?
Where are the drums used to record the original Surfaris' version of Wipeout? This was one of the great drumming performances of all time. It was groundbreaking. In my opinion, this set of drums belongs in the rock & roll hall of fame to be preserved forever. Where are those drums? Packed away in a garage, some unknowing kids practice set, at the bottom of a land fill?
Why was Dick Dales band off camera in this great live performance on the Ed Sullivan Show? http://www.theaquasonics.com/downloads/dickdale.wmv

Great question.... Bob Spickard lives about a mile from me. Next time I run into him I'm going to ask.

I believe a lot of that sound is related to recording equipment and techniques of the time and not so much the actual instrumental gear. What I mean is that if someone today used the very same guitar, effect and amp and recorded it without trying to achive that recording sound, it wouldn't sound like the original "Pipeline" recording.

i've often wondered if the acoustics in the room played a part also.
