Looks like he's got a custom capo on the 12th fret. Looks like all the strings are for one sort of bass fiddle or another. It used to be common in the Mississippi delta that folks that didn't have the money for a guitar would pound two nails in the side of a shed or a barn or a post on the front porch and string it with baling wire. BB King got his start that way and I have seen interviews with other blues legends that tell the same story. They would play it these strung nails with a slide. The urge for expression is so strong with some folks that they will string up a gourd with guts from a cat. Can you imagine making your own strings out of a cat? On the recording called Dafos by Mickey Hart, Airto Moreira, and Flora Purim, they actually string up a big steel cable to an I-Beam, attach a microphone, hit the thing with a hammer, and control the feedback. It sounds like a tractor trailer backing into the corner of your house. The thing is freaking sub sonic! Seamoor Glas |
