Permalink Mosrite trem in gig bags

New Topic

Hello,

I just bought a Mosrite over eBay and I have the option of buying it with a case. I don't think I will because it is quite expensive.. Anyway, would the guitar be all right in a gig bag? Because as far as I'm aware you can't take off the whammy bar, so would it have any adverse effects from the rough life of a gig bag instead of a hard-case? Would it actually matter too much?

Thanks

maxtib..
Do what you have to BUT GET THE CASE!! Mosrite cases are getting as hard to find as the guitars. And your local Guitar Center or otherwise probably will not have a case to fit a Mosrite guitar.
Failing that, get a good quality gig bag - the more padding the better.

You can turn the trem arm back toward the end strap pin.. the arm will be more flush with the body.. i do this with my mosrites when i put them in the case.. it takes the strain off the strings and neck because the case lid doesn't press down on the trem bar.. the down side to this is that the screw holding the trem arm will eventually get too loose from being turned in and out of position and the arm will dangle instead of staying where you put it. Grit your teeth, loosen the strings and re-tighten the screw. I use a bit of Lock-Tite on the screw threads. this keeps the screw tighter longer.. hope this helps Wink

So when it loosens it can be remedied? I played a Celebrity and I had this very problem, so it could be fixed?

That put me off the guitar a bit.. That and the fact it was £750 and it had about 20 drill holes in the front!

I don't have a Mosrite, but I used to wonder the same thing about putting my Jag in the case with the trem arm on. When you think about it, it's nothing to worry about because pushing down actually loosens the strings, so I don't think pressure on the strings/neck is really an issue.

Maxy,
The Celebrity was always a boreline(quality) guitar..IMHO.. I'VE NEVER EVEN CONSIDERED GETTING ONE.. Played a few at shows and shops but you have a better than even chance of getting a LEMON! The bolt neck (on a hollow body??!!).. the feedback.. And they are hard to sell.. with the holes in it that you mentioned, I'd say that if you buy it, it will be YOUR guitar( as in hard to sell).. But to each his own.

Re-tightening the trem arm screw with a total string change isn't brain surgery. just remeber to use some loc-tite on the screw threads and maybe cut yourself a fresh leather washer (from an old belt or wallet) to help with the trem arm friction againt the mounting bar.

For what it's worth - Save your pennies and get a Ventures model or Mark I

Yer, it was an okay guitar - but nothing outstanding. The guitar prices in London are ludicrous anyway!

I'm actually getting an 'Excellent' copy, so Mark 1-ish. A lovely white one at that..

I'll have to think strongly about the case - but it's all money money money (about £100 worth of moneys)

Thanks again

i leave the bar on when putting my jag int he hardshell case.... is that okay????

I do this too and I sleep rather well at night. Should be no problem.
