Permalink Ampeg Reverberocket

I just bought a Reverberocket R212 for a really good price and I'm wondering if anyone on here has used one for surf? I had an Ampeg Echotwin in the 60's and it was a great amp...can I expect the same kind of sound?

Similar, not the same, though. The vintage Ampegs of the 1960's had amazing reverb. The newer amps are not quite the same, but still really good amps for surf, garage, exotica, etc. The tubes being used now are different (my old Reberberockets use 7591 power tubes, I think- what powers the new amps?), and they are now put together using printed circuit boards, but they still sound good.

The last time I saw an Echo Twin, it was for sale in a place called Music Museum in Pittman, NJ. Maybe it was yours...

I love those Amps! My ex had one, she used to work for St. Louis Music and got a great deal on a cosmetic 2nd. That means that the Electronics are 100% but somewhere is something like a wrinkle in the vinyl or a scratch on it. Never did see a problem with the vinyl or a scratch. But anyway, that thing was LOUD! and for a combo, had a nice reverb sound. Ampeg was the first to put reverb on their amps. Yes, it is true! Will it sound like a Fender Reverb tank? No, but they do have a nice surf sound. I think you will enjoy it a lot. And Yes, we used ours for surf and it ROCKED!
