makes me wish I followed up on my 3 months of piano lessons. Sad

That is awesome...

Enrique Granados is my favorite composer. Here is another version of Andaluza or Spanish Dance No 5, by Petar Jankovic. Originally written for the piano, It has been transcribed for instruments ranging from violin to harp to guitar. Nicanor Zabaleta recorded the definitive version for harp, and I happen to like John Williams version for guitar but Petar does very well.

This is an emotionally complex piece to play properly. Many guitarists of the finest calibre lack the technical skill and grace of style to pull it off.

Also, a similar piece from the tradition that gave rise to Granados formal compositions(Paco!!!)...

And, one of my favorite duets for a piece by Manuel de Falla:

Thanks for posting those.

This may be a dumb question, but is that the same John Williams that wrote the music for Poltergeist and Rambo? I always thought he was the greatest movie soundtrack creator.

forget that above post, I have been doing too much crack. I was thinking of Jerry Goldsmith.

No, he is the John Williams from Australia who is one of the most accomplished classical guitarists of all time. He's getting to be an old man now, but in the days of his youth, no one could match his elan. The guitar player was at the peak of his career in the late 60's early 70's, before Star Wars made the name and the Hollywood composer, a household name.

Here he is playing Debussy with Bream, with is English. I am guessing this video is about 36 years old. Williams is the guy on the right.

Here he is today with Paco Pena demonstrating Flamenco:

Finally, the great Paco Pena solo:

from 1975, with John Wiliams, when they had the energy of youth:

I honestly had never heard of Ernesto Lecuona before I saw the video youposted, although I was familiar with various versions of 'The Breeze and I' from 50's exotica by Martin Denny, and later, the Shadows. After I saw the video, I went on a rampage and acquired the 5 volumes of his complete piano works. I love Cuban music. Well, I love the music of Spain and all of its children, as well as all of its parents.
