time for a new shot for this HAND-PICKED PIX thread found this one, from 2005 it's of me, and fellow East Coast music promoter Blue StingRaye (also the Official Concert and Album Reviewer for NESMA - the North East Surf Music Alliance, www.nesmasurf.org) Blue StingRaye has a website too: www.myspace.com/bluestingraye note the sign we are pointing to.... we are urging everyone to WALK, DON'T RUN !! silly stuff but that's why I chose it! here is a personal favorite of mine now, I was visiting California for the very first time in my life in 1979 (or so my hazy memory tells me), to meet up with the West Hollywood staff of Chrysalis Records (I ran their publicity out of the NYC office), and I walk into a Hotel in Century City (Hyatt I believe?); and the first "celebrity" I run into is none other than a hero of mine, JAN BERRY I completely freaked out!! this was around the time JAN & DEAN started performing again, as JAN was recovered enough to get back on stage I saw them in a small club during that visit, introduced by RODNEY of KROQ R.I.P. Jan, you gave us so much UNSTEADY FREDDIE p.s. those stylish glasses I am wearing are bigger than the 5-story walk-up apartment I now live in in Hell's Kitchen NYC !! — |

I saw Jan & Dean perform in Surf City around 1990. It was the big show at Huntington Beach High School with Dick Dale, The Chantays & pretty much everyone else in the surf scene at the time. I'm sure BTD knows the exact date. It was sad how messed up Jan was... Dean Torrance is still going strong. |
